Breaking: Eagles Close in to Sign Former Pro Bowl Wide Receiver in a blockbuster deal.

Hunter Renfrow says he let down Raiders teammates in 2022, determined for bounce-back season | AP News

The Philadelphia Eagles, who began the season 10-1 and many predicted them to win the rest of the season, are hoping to return to the Super Bowl this year. However, that did not transpire as the Eagles lost to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the first round of the NFL Playoffs after appearing to be well on their way to repeating as the NFC Champions for the most of the regular season last year.

Looking to make up for its 2023 missteps, Philadelphia is getting ready for the 2024 NFL season. Their wide receiver room was one of the areas they want to enhance. They signed DeVante Parker to be their slot wide receiver earlier in the summer. He shocked everyone, though, by quitting not long after.

With their wide receiver depth once more in doubt, the Eagles find themselves in a difficult situation.

Hunter Renfrow, a free agent wide receiver, is encouraged to sign with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Hunter Renfrow could be an option for this NFL team

The scouting staff of Bleacher Report identified a third wide receiver (behind AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith) as Philadelphia’s third most obvious vulnerability in an article listing each NFL team’s top five weaknesses.

They recommend that the Eagles sign wide receiver Hunter Renfrow, a free agent, to address this:

The Eagles signed Julio Jones last autumn because they have been looking for a third wide receiver to go with A.J. Brown and DeVonta Smith for almost a year.

But DeVante Parker surprisingly retired after signing with the Eagles this offseason, and Jones was well past his prime, leaving Parris Campbell as the team’s best option at wide receiver.

Meanwhile, Renfrow is searching for a chance to turn things around following a disappointing season with the Las Vegas Raiders, and he may find one in Philadelphia by starting the season off the bench as the slot receiver.

“While Brown and Smith pose a deep threat to defenses, the 2021 Pro Bowl player may be used in the short-to-intermediate areas of the field.”

Renfrow had 25 receptions for 255 yards and no touchdowns for the Raiders in the previous season. Positively, he played in all 17 games in 2022 despite missing seven because of an injury.

In 2021, Renfrow played wide receiver in the Pro Bowl, hauling in 103 receptions for 1,038 yards and nine touchdowns.

Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles might assist Hunter Renfrow at quarterback.

Renfrow’s performance during the previous two seasons leaves one feeling unimpressed. It won’t draw much attention to have 61 receptions for 585 yards and two scores in just two years.
But remember that Renfrow was playing in Las Vegas last season with extremely subpar quarterback play. Even if Brown and Smith will limit his targets, he can still have a successful career by playing alongside a capable quarterback like Jalen Hurts.

Injuries would get an additional target that can compel defenses to provide more truthful coverage. Renfrow, who is about to turn 29, might yet have more left in him.

All he needs is the right set of circumstances (and quarterback).
