Breaking: Following the trade deadline, two of Phillies star players will get more playing time while three will see less.

The Philadelphia Phillies strengthened the team for the last stretch of play by making a significant number of trade deadline acquisitions. The starting lineup for the Phillies and the state of the bullpen were somewhat changed by the transactions.

Consequently, let us examine three Phillies players who are expected to suffer reduced playing time moving ahead, as well as two other Phillies players who stand to gain from the repercussions from the deadline and receive some crucial playing time.

Philadelphia Phillies outfielders Brandon Marsh, Johan Rojas and Nick Castellanos

Many were unsure about Johan Rojas’s chances of earning a starter position on the formidable Phillies squad going into the 2024 season. In the outfield, Rojas consistently demonstrated Gold Glove-caliber defense, but his bat was still questionable and maybe not quite major-league ready.

That was undoubtedly the case in the first few games of the season. In his first eight games, Rojas managed just one hit and two runs scored, showing a lackluster start to his career. He has since improved a little bit, as evidenced by his.238 batting average,.572 OPS, 23 RBI, and 17 stolen bases in 82 games. But despite only managing eight extra-base hits this season and a strikeout-to-walk ratio of more than 5:1, his performance at the plate still has a lot of unmet expectations.

Phillies will give Hays a chance to play every day; Rojas to lose playing time

The Phillies are forced to reduce the playing time of their least effective outfielder because Austin Hays, who was acquired by them at the trade deadline, will be an everyday outfield player. Manager Rob Thomson reportedly told NBC Sports Philadelphia’s Corey Seidman that Rojas would see less playing time.

Phillies Should Option Johan Rojas

He still receives the occasional start here and there because to his excellent defense. However, Rojas will probably be most useful right now filling in for the injured Cristian Pache as a pinch runner and/or defensive replacement in the late innings.
