John Elway established himself as one of the all-time great quarterbacks during his time as the Denver Broncos’ on-field face. He accomplished the difficult task of winning back-to-back Super Bowl wins.

Elway followed the path of many former players who played for a single team after his illustrious playing career ended and into the front office, where his job was to strive to return his team to its peak on the football field.

As anyone in that crucial role within an NFL organization, Elway made many mistakes in his role as general manager of the Broncos, but he also achieved some success, helping the team sign fellow superstar quarterback Peyton Manning, who also helped the team win a Super Bowl title while he was in Denver.

The 64-year-old Elway recently talked about what he thinks was his biggest error as general manager of the illustrious team, and it naturally has to do with the quarterback position.

Elway acknowledged that his worst error, as reported by Barstool Denver, was not picking Josh Allen, who is currently one of the NFL’s top quarterbacks for the Buffalo Bills, during an interview on the Pardon My Take podcast.

Elway may have been able to end his career as general manager in Denver in the same manner that he did during his playing days, so that’s a difficult pill to swallow.

Allen eventually found himself in a great position in Buffalo and hasn’t looked back, though it’s possible that with Elway’s assistance, he could have achieved greater success in Denver much more quickly.
