Transfer: The Cowboys have finally closed a deal to retain standout player CeeDee.
According to the most recent update, the Dallas Cowboys and star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb are making headway in their negotiations, but there is still a long way to go.
Fans of the Dallas Cowboys were rewarded with excellent news this past weekend as Stephen Jones disclosed that CeeDee Lamb and Dak Prescott have had their contract offers extended.
It’s encouraging news for Prescott, who wants to stay in Dallas, and Lamb, who is holding out for a new contract through training camp.
But before anyone gets too enthusiastic, there’s a fresh update regarding Lamb.
There is still a long way to go, even though the two parties are making progress in the current conversations. According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, there is “not a deal that I would describe as close” in the negotiations for a new contract.
“They’re in a slightly better situation than they were a few days or weeks ago, at the very least, I would say. Still not there,” Rapoport stated. “Although there hasn’t been much development, I wouldn’t characterize this deal as close.
“There is at least some hope that the Cowboys will eventually be able to sign CeeDee Lamb. He doesn’t seem like he can defeat Justin Jefferson, but I wouldn’t be shocked if he came very close.”
With the Minnesota Vikings, Jefferson inked a $140 million, four-year contract deal. There were guarantees totaling $88.743 million in the deal.
Hopefully, the two sides can reach a mutually beneficial deal, since the guaranteed money seems to be the sticking point between the Cowboys and Lamb. Lamb should go back on the field as soon as possible.
Lamb’s finest year as a professional occurred last season. With 135 receptions, he led the NFL in receiving while gaining 1,749 yards and 12 touchdowns. Lamb was selected to his third Pro Bowl of his career, first-team All-Pro, and added two rushing touchdowns.
