Headline: Ryan Dromboski Signs Undrafted Free Agent Contract with Phillies.
Ryan Dromboski, a rising senior right-handed pitcher, signed an undrafted free agent contract with the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday afternoon, making him the most recent member of the University of Pennsylvania baseball team to earn a professional contract.
Dromboski had the best sophomore season of his Penn career in 2023, winning the Ivy League Pitcher of the Year award and being selected to the first team of the All-Ivy after posting a 7-3 record with a 3.17 ERA in 13 starts, 35 walks, and 97 strikeouts.
He finished first in strikeouts (54), second in ERA (2.27), tied for the conference lead in Ivy League victories (5), and won second-team ABCA/Rawlings All-East Region accolades for his effort.
After having a rough start to the 2024 season, Dromboski finished the regular season 3-0 with a 1.45 ERA, striking out 25 batters in 18.2 innings while giving up only three walks. With 50 strikeouts, he tied for fourth in the conference and recorded a 3-2 record in Ivy League play with a 5.40 ERA. Dromboski’s outstanding year-ending performance earned him honorable mention All-Ivy status.
Being a righty who attended Northern Burlington County High School and grew up as a Phillies fan in nearby Columbus, New Jersey, signing with his local team is undoubtedly a dream come true for him.
After three seasons at University City, Dromboski finishes his career with the Quakers with a 10-8 record, a 5.24 ERA, and 33 appearances (26 starts), striking out 174 batters in 139.0 innings of work.
Former Penn baseball players making their professional debuts have had a busy July thus far, with deals signed by Jackson Appel (White Sox), Eli Trop (Phillies), Cole Zaffiro (Yankees), and now Dromboski in the last week.
