Headline: Former Pro Bowl DB for the Eagles claims he suggested switching positions.
The cornerback position is utterly loaded for the Philadelphia Eagles.
And because James Bradberry, the cornerback, was probably short on playing time, he decided to go to safety in order to get more reps and establish a more distinct position for himself on the squad.
Bradberry led all Eagles defensive backs with 726 coverage snaps in the previous season. However, according to Pro Football Focus, he also gave up a team-high 797 yards and 10 touchdowns with a passer rating against of 114.2.
Bradberry probably thought it would be harder to get minutes at cornerback with Darius Slay, a six-time Pro Bowler, on the other side of the defense, Eli Ricks and Josh Jobe demanding more playing time, Rodgers joining the mix, and highly regarded rookies Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean selected in the first and second rounds joining the mix.
There are two other excellent safeties on the Eagles: Reed Blankenship and C.J. Gardner-Johnson. However, Gardner-Johnson is currently recovering from a torn pectoral muscle that kept him out of just three games the previous season. Additionally, Philly has a history of rotating safeties, which could give Bradberry an opportunity to start.
Last season, Bradberry gave up a 60.4 completion percentage while forcing 12 forced incompletions, forcing nine pass breakups, and giving up one interception.
