Breaking: Giants’ massive acquisition injured again during practice.

Giants OLB Brian Burns Explains Why He's “A Little Pissed Off”

On Monday during practice, standout pass-rusher and offseason addition Brian Burns suffered a foot injury that gave the New York Giants a worry on the fifth day of training camp.

As the trainers examined him, Dan Duggan of The Athletic noted that the injuries didn’t seem too bad. Though this was probably a precaution, the Giants felt that it was sufficient to bench him for the rest of practice.

It looks like Brian Burns escaped a serious injury.

The two-time Pro Bowler is one of the most effective pass rushers in the league and elevates the Giants’ defense, so they cannot afford to lose him for an extended period of time. Fortunately for them, it seems like he will be alright.

Official information regarding Burns’ condition is still pending, but the Giants are extremely relieved that he appears to have escaped a catastrophic foot injury during Monday’s practice.

Burns’ scare comes a few days after another significant offseason addition had a near-miss incident. Jermaine Eluemunor, a new offensive tackle, damaged his ribs after taking a heavy hit from Dexter Lawrence, though head coach Brian Daboll said it was “nothing serious.”

The Giants made a strong drive to get Brian Burns in 2024 and later.

The Giants made an effort to sign Burns when the Carolina Panthers made it apparent that he was available, as depicted on the HBO series “Hard Knocks.” For the great linebacker, New York received the 39th overall pick in this year’s draft, a fifth-round pick for the next year, and a fifth-round pick-swap. After the transaction, the Giants signed him to a five-year, $141 million contract, solidifying his place in their long-term plans.

With him added, the Giants now boast one of the most formidable pass-rushing tandems in the NFL, led by Dexter Lawrence, Burns, and Kayvon Thibodeaux. Playing in 80 of a possible 83 career games since joining the league as a first-round draft pick in 2019, Burns has shown to be one of the more durable edge rushers. He had career highs in 2022 with 12.5 sacks and 63 total tackles.

The Giants may breathe a sigh of relief knowing that their star acquisition seems to be doing just fine, even though it is uncertain how this small foot ailment will effect Burns’ workload for the remainder of training camp.
