Breaking: Former Alabama RB had always desired to join Green Bay Packers, it’s a dream come true.
It has been claimed that Josh Jacobs had desired to leave Las Vegas for some time before to joining the Green Bay Packers.
A lot of things surprised me when former Alabama running back Josh Jacobs inked a four-year, $48 million contract with the Green Bay Packers this offseason, one of them was that Jacobs would be taking over for veteran Aaron Jones. One of the things that was more of a formality than a big surprise? Jacobs is departing the Las Vegas Raiders, the team he was selected by in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft and where he finished top in the league in 2022 with 1,653 yards of rushes.
The Raiders applied the franchise tag on Jacobs following that 2022 campaign. Ultimately, a one-year agreement for up to $12 million was negotiated by the two parties. Despite a season marred by injuries, Jacobs amassed 805 yards of rushing. However, according to reports published on Monday by USA Today Network beat reporter Ryan Wood about the Packers, Jacobs requested a trade last summer from Raiders owner Mark Davis.
Davis remained steadfast and declined the Miami Dolphins’ advances to sign the All-Pro. Jacobs hadn’t signed his franchise tag at that point. The two-time Pro Bowler wanted a longer-term contract with more guaranteed money, something that many running backs have struggled with and still do. Interestingly, this past season, fellow former Alabama running back Derrick Henry also left his longstanding franchise to get a multiyear contract with the Baltimore Ravens.
With increased emphasis on the passing game and concerns about workload and age, NFL front offices have faced some difficulties in the running back market. Jordan Love, the quarterback for the Packers and the Jacobs, recently inked a massive four-year contract worth $220 million, becoming him the highest-paid athlete in the league.
