Jose Siri of the Rays celebrates his birthday in New York
Notes | After going deep in the fifth inning, the centerfielder made sure to bask in the glory in front of the Yankees supporters.
NEW YORK Jose Siri had a blast and some boos on Monday as he celebrated his birthday.
With a home run in the fifth inning, Siri gave the Rays the lone run they needed in their 9-1 loss to the Yankees.
The now 29-year-old celebrated the event with a spectacular bat toss, a slow trot around the bases (about 30 seconds), and a few hand motions, including one that appeared to resemble a conversation. Both at-bat and during his subsequent at-bat, he drew jeers.
Through team interpreter Manny Navarro, Siri stated, “I was just trying to have fun with my teammates in the dugout, and that’s just what happened.”
It wasn’t done for the admirers.
