RIP, Providence Friars key payer dead after a failed surgery
Prior to his rookie season, the 13th overall choice in the 2024 NBA Draft is facing a setback.
With the 13th choice in the 2024 NBA Draft, the Sacramento Kings chose guard Devin Carter of Providence Friars, but their much-heralded rookie is facing a setback.
According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Carter will have surgery on his left shoulder the following week.
Although Charania says he is “expected to make a full recovery with no long-term issues,” it remains unclear if he will be ready to start his first season.
The Kings have been keeping an eye on his health ever since he arrived in Sacramento, so they had knowledge of his injuries even before they were drafted. The California Classic Summer League turned down the lottery talent, so fans of the Kings will now have to wait even longer to watch him play.
Carter shot 37.7 percent from beyond the arc while averaging 19.7 points, 8.7 rebounds, 3.6 assists, 1.8 steals, and one block per game in his junior year at Providence. This impediment shouldn’t stop the 2024 Big East Conference Player of the Year from making a significant impact at the next level.
The skilled youngster should not be forced to return to the floor right away, but the Kings cannot wait for him to be ready. While Carter heals, Sacramento has a few talented guards, like as recently signed point guard Jordan McLaughlin, to hold down the rotation.
