Breaking: Giants HC Brian Daboll has a different Daniel Jones replacement in the draft.

Hard Knocks' tease shows Giants' desire to trade for Jayden Daniels

The young quarterback was adored by the head coach of the NY Giants.

Drake Maye—that, that, and this. Yes, we are aware that the New England Patriots and the NY Giants attempted to trade up at No. 3 in order to acquire the top player from North Carolina. But Brian Daboll had several quarterbacks highly ranked on his roster.

We were able to have an additional intimate glimpse into the staff’s thoughts regarding the draft through Hard Knocks. The general manager Joe Schoen asks Daboll if he’s seen enough of Jayden Daniels to trade up for him in the preview for Episode 4 (which can be seen below). Daboll responded without hesitation:

Were the Giants Interested in Former LSU Quarterback Jayden Daniels?

Giants Head Coach Brian Daboll desired to get Jayden Daniels by trading up in the draft.
Daniels was ultimately chosen by the Washington Commanders as the second overall pick, as everyone is aware. Playing against him twice a season will undoubtedly make Daboll loathe himself, but that’s just the way things happened in late April. Daniels undoubtedly enjoys playing video games.

He won the Heisman Trophy in 2023 following an outstanding season at LSU. Daboll asked Daniels some pointed questions during the NFL Combine, and the video of them exchanging barbs went viral as well. Subsequently, Daniels’ impressive performance during off-season training further intensified Daboll’s curiosity in him.

Once more, the fact that Daniels is currently in Washington will surely keep some Giants supporters up at night. Daboll would have been pleased to see him wear a Big Blue shirt, which would have been amazing. But Daniel Jones will be the one leading the offense onto the field.

Hard Knocks has confirmed that Daboll and the front office were prepared to let go of Danny Dimes as the starting quarterback of the future, given the intense interest in other QBs. This fall will give him one more chance to establish his worth, but if he falters, Daboll and company will undoubtedly be considering elite quarterback possibilities when the 2025 NFL Draft rolls around. Is there going to be someone as strong as Daniels? That would be the aspiration.
