ESPN: Titans close in to sign a five-star Wide Receiver in a blockbuster deal.
It was recently disclosed by an NFL wide receiver that he had conversations with the Tennessee Titans earlier in the offseason.
The Tennessee Titans needed to make several wide receiver upgrades as the offseason began. On March 15, general manager Ran Carthon made a huge impact by inking Calvin Ridley to a $92 million, four-year contract. Will Levis will use Ridley and DeAndre Hopkins as his go-to receivers.
For new head coach Brian Callahan to easily deploy his pass-happy approach, he needed one more passing-game weapon. On May 13, Tyler Boyd was signed by the Titans to a one-year contract, satisfying that request. Callahan spent the previous five seasons as Boyd’s coach with the Cincinnati Bengals.
In free agency, the Titans almost added a third receiver. The “St. Brown Podcast” is a podcast that Equanimeous St. Brown and his brother Amon-Ra St. Brown host. Equanimeous St. Brown, who signed with the New Orleans Saints on April 12, was a free agent earlier in the offseason. It was recently disclosed by Brown that the Titans were one of the teams that expressed interest.
Prior to signing with the Saints, St. Brown stated, “I spoke with a few teams, the New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers, and Tennessee Titans.” The Saints seemed to be the team that would best suit my career. I’m happy I traveled to New Orleans. I’ve already been there for the off-season. “OTA was excellent,” St. Brown said.
Interestingly, St. Brown signed with the Saints about a month before Boyd was added by the Titans. If Boyd had been successful in luring St. Brown to Nashville a month earlier, would Carthon have followed him then as well? Most likely, considering his past experiences with Callahan, but it’s a worthwhile inquiry.
Alternatively, Treylon Burks might have been put up for trade.
