Defensemen Alec Regula and Michael Callahan have signed one-year, two-way contracts with $775,000 NHL cap hits, the Boston Bruins announced on Friday.

The 24-year-old Callahan played in 70 games with the Providence Bruins, the club’s AHL affiliate, last season, tallying four goals and 13 assists for 17 points. In 140 AHL regular-season games over his career, the 6-foot-2 blueliner has collected 27 points (six goals and 21 assists).

Callahan played college hockey for four seasons with the Providence Friars before becoming pro. The Franklin, Massachusetts native played in 138 games between 2018–19 and 2021–22, scoring 13 goals and dishing out 53 assists for 66 points.

After spending a portion of two seasons in the USHL, where he was selected by the Arizona Coyotes in the fifth round of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft, Callahan played for the Youngstown Phantoms, Central Illinois Flying Aces, and Bloomington Thunder for 61 games, tallying three goals and 15 assists for a total of 18 points.

Regula, 23, played in 55 games with Providence in 2023–24, totaling 26 points with four goals and 22 assists. The 6-foot-4 defender has participated in 163 AHL regular-season games in his career, tallying 77 points with 16 goals and 61 assists.

Bruins acquire rights to Mass. native Michael Callahan

Regular, a native of West Bloomfield, Michigan, played 22 games in three seasons with the Chicago Blackhawks before joining the Bruins organization last season.

Additionally, he participated in over 100 games with the Rockford IceHogs, the Blackhawks’ AHL affiliate. Regula has played in 163 regular-season games with Rockford and Providence throughout his AHL career, tallying 16 goals and 61 assists for 77 points.

Regula played three seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s London Knights before going professional. In 189 career OHL regular-season games, he totaled 124 points with 45 goals and 79 assists. Before the COVID-19 epidemic ended the season, Regula recorded 27 goals and 33 assists for 60 points in 56 games during his previous campaign.
