MLB Insider Ken Rosenthal Floats Potential Red Sox Trade Target

Alex Cora was very clear about what he thought about the MLB trade deadline. The manager of the Red Sox wants his team to be “greedy” in order to contend.

Who, though, has a chance to actually surpass the July 30 milestone in Boston?

The beginning pitching might need some help, but if Brayan Bello improves and Josh Winckowski keeps up his strong play, Craig Breslow and company might give up on that goal. The middle infield, where Trevor Story’s major shoulder injury early in the season handed the Red Sox a blow, may be next on the priority list.

Though Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic sees a potential solution on the West Coast, it may be a challenging box to check.

In a post that was published on Monday, Rosenthal stated, “A rental shortstop would be ideal with Story expected back next season and (Marcelo) Mayer close to the majors.”Angels second baseman Luis Rengifo, who leads the American League in hitting average at.317, would be a valuable addition, but none are expected to be available. And through 2025, the club will be in charge of him.

Rengifo might provide the Red Sox more than just a powerful bat. With the exception of first base, catcher, and pitcher, the 27-year-old has played every position in the major leagues, demonstrating his remarkable defensive versatility.

Boston’s chances of winning the World Series this summer may not be great, therefore it could be preferable to sign a rental player. However, acquiring Rengifo seems highly appealing since he may be a huge asset to the Red Sox come playoff time.
