Breaking: Former QB for the Georgia Bulldogs set for a possible return
Kelly Stafford, the wife of Matthew Stafford, recently made headlines when she disclosed that she dated her husband’s backup quarterback in college in an effort to enrage him.
Many fans attempted to figure out which backup she had used to get a response from the now-Los Angeles Rams player after her remarks threw them into a frenzy.
Joe Cox, Stafford’s teammate on the Bulldogs, was also mentioned in the media frenzy. Kelly has apologized to the father of three for his uninvited involvement in the situation during the altercation.
Joe Cox, the former quarterback for Georgia who is now the coach of Alabama, is examined in this article by DailyMail.com.
Cox, a native of Charlotte, North Carolina, went south to play for the University of Georgia in 2005 after winning the Gatorade Player of the Year award at Independence High School, where he was a standout player for the Tar Heels.
Despite being a highly sought-after recruit, Cox was moved down the depth chart by the Bulldogs when they signed Stafford in his second season.
Between 2006 and 2008, Stafford stayed in Athens, where his undergraduate romance with Kelly Hall started. That’s when the famed dating story of the former cheerleader happened.
Before earning his psychology bachelor’s degree in 2009, Cox was back in the starting lineup for the Bulldogs.
Leading the offense as captain, Cox’s performance against Arkansas resulted in five touchdowns and 375 yards, earning him the title of Walter Camp Offensive Player of the Week. During his time in college, Cox completed 56 percent of his throws for 3,016 yards and 29 touchdowns.
Prior to taking on the role of tight end coach for three seasons (2016–18) and wide receivers coach in his last year in Fort Collins, Cox worked as a graduate assistant at Colorado State.
Cox contributed to one of the most productive seasons in school history by helping the Rams’ offense flourish. With Cox on the coaching staff, CSU has recorded two of its best five scoring seasons and two of its top four total offense seasons, including a school-record 492.5 yards per game in 2017.
At 305.3 yards per game, the Rams’ passing offense placed 14th in the country in 2019.
After that, he worked as South Carolina’s wide receivers coach for the 2020 season before joining Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide in February 2022 as the tight ends coach.
