Breaking: Falcons $14 million star agree to contract extension which is the most …….
In order to get better for the upcoming season, the Atlanta Falcons might need to make some difficult decisions. They should, among other things, give cornerback AJ Terrell a contract extension in advance of the 2024 season.
Terrell played collegiate football at Clemson University before becoming pro. There, he was selected to the All-ACC team twice and won the 2018 national championship. The Falcons then selected him in the first round of the NFL Draft 2020.
Terrell got off to a strong start in his Falcons rookie campaign, picking up his first career interception against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 6. He improved even more in his second season, making the 2021 Pro Football Focus second-team All-Pro team with three interceptions and a career-high 82.7 overall grade.
Terrell has made a name for himself in the Falcons secondary by excelling in coverage with his size, quickness, and ball skills. He will want to build on his early success as he prepares for his fourth NFL season and maintain his position as one of the best young cornerbacks in the league.
The Atlanta Falcons’ most significant contract extension for the upcoming season is for cornerback AJ Terrell.
A number of players with the Falcons are about to have their contracts extended. Ryan Fowler explained why Terrell is the most crucial player to receive a contract from Atlanta in a Bleacher Report piece.
“Terrell has developed into one of the top perimeter corners in the game. He recorded eight passes defended in each of Atlanta’s 17 games played last fall, and 16 in the previous two seasons combined.
The cost of premium corners will only go up with time. Denzel Ward, Jalen Ramsey, and Jaire Alexander are the three highest paid cornerbacks in the NFL, each earning over $20 million a year.
Even though Terrell hasn’t made the Pro Bowl in each of his first four seasons, Fontenot would be wise to stay ahead of the rapidly expanding corner market, according to Fowler.
The Falcons had a 7–10 record at the end of the previous season. Out of 32 teams, their defense was ranked 18th, and their attack was ranked 26th in the league.
One of the first things Atlanta can do is give Terrell the extension he deserves if they want to develop a contender. In the years to come, it won’t be difficult to picture the Falcons ascending in the NFC East given enough time, insight, and endurance.
