The Daily Mail claims that Birmingham has requested permission from the EFL to play a League One match against Wrexham in the United States.

This week, Wrexham will learn the League One schedule, and Birmingham looks to have tried an innovative switch.

Not surprisingly, though, the EFL has written that possibility out of the equation.

Birmingham is said to be “disappointed” that the EFL turned down their proposal, ostensibly because they thought that having a game played domestically would have raised the EFL’s prominence.

If Birmingham had prevailed, this would have been an absolutely historic occasion because no Premier League or EFL match has ever been played overseas.

Although it’s unknown if Wrexham was even in favor of the proposal, the majority of supporters would undoubtedly be against it.

The desire of Wrexham supporters to see games at the STōK Cae Ras is understandable, but moving games from Wales to the United States shouldn’t be planned anytime soon, despite the phenomenal growth in popularity of Wrexham.

It appears that American owners may now propose that EFL games be played in England, Germany, Mexico, and Brazil as a result of the NFL playing games there.
