This season, Stanton has been an Athletics regular at first base. With him out, the Yankees may be searching for a replacement player other than a DH. We may anticipate Davis to take over at first base, where he made 17 starts for the A’s, as Anthony Rizzo is also absent. Last season, Davis famously blasted the Mets for how they employed him, only to see his production quickly decline.

Since joining the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2022, he has yet to play first base.
For those who follow the Mets from a bygone era, Steven Matz will be out for an additional four to six weeks due to a setback in his rehabilitation. Fans of the St. Louis Cardinals might not care too much. Even though I pitched well for them in a short 105 innings as a starter and reliever last season, things have returned to how they were in 2022 this season. For a Cardinals team that has shown a lot more tenacity than they did when he was in the rotation, Matz is 1-2 with a 6.18 ERA in six starts.
The Mets won’t be concerned about any immediate effects from Scherzer, Vogelbach, or Matz. Conversely, Davis is certain to start his Yankees debut against the Mets in at least one game.
