Breaking news: Former Falcons Player Rejects Steelers Contract Agreement.
Once again, on defense, the Pittsburgh Steelers have added a former Atlanta Falcon to their roster. On June 21, Alex Kozora of Steelers Depot reported that defensive tackle Willington Previlon was acquired by the Steelers via waiver claim.
The Steelers updated the NFL transaction sheet with the move.
The Steelers had already added four noteworthy former Falcons players this offseason, all of whom were offensive players, before acquiring Previlon. Previlon, however, did not play for previous Atlanta head coach Arthur Smith, in contrast to those four players.
On January 10, Previlon was signed by the Falcons to a reserve/future contract. Two days ago, Atlanta dismissed Smith, the new offensive coordinator for the Steelers.
Previlon spent his first four NFL seasons as a member of the Green Bay Packers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Dallas Cowboys after going undrafted in 2020. Still, he hasn’t made an appearance in a regular season game.
DT Willington Previlon is off waivers, per the Steelers.
Previlon’s acquisition gives the Steelers access to a full offseason roster once more and strengthens their defensive line’s interior.
Previlon was a college football player at Rutgers, where throughout his career he recorded 71 total tackles, 11.5 of which were for loss. He also had three pass defenses and four sacks.
During his senior season, he recorded 35 tackles, including 7.5 for loss and 1 sack.
Pro Football Network’s Tony Pauline described Previlon as “undersized” at 287 pounds during his draft process, but he was also described as “explosive” and a player who had demonstrated “versatility.”
Pauline stated on March 30, 2020, “Previlon has nice length, growth potential, and great athleticism.” “Despite being moved around on the defensive line at Rutgers, he still has a rough exterior, but he has potential and ought to be taken into consideration for the practice squad.”
With Previlon, the Steelers now have eight defensive tackles on their roster. Though they are listed as defensive tackles on the official Steelers roster, veterans like Cameron Heyward and Larry Ogunjobi will really play defensive end and defensive tackle in 2023.
This offseason, the Steelers added four notable Falcons: tight end MyCole Pruitt, wide receivers Van Jefferson and Scotty Miller, and kick returner and running back Cordarrelle Patterson. Smith’s playbook is known to all four of those players.
