Oakland A's free agents: So long Mark Canha, and thanks for all the bat flips - Athletics Nation

After winning six of their previous seven games and sweeping the Detroit Tigers, the Braves are beginning to resemble the team they were a year ago. This brings us to our next trade deadline article.

I’ve written about a ton of trade candidates for various teams, most of them are from organizations who will definitely be offloading all of their excess inventory in the upcoming six months. Although they are a somewhat up-and-coming team, the Tigers are not quite in that category, and they have very little chance of making the playoffs in the fiercely tough American League. As they continue to develop around their youthful core for the future, they ought to be shifting veterans.

At this point, I don’t think the Braves will make a significant move at the trade deadline to acquire a starting pitcher. mostly because the team’s top player has been the starting pitcher. A postseason run is more than possible with Chris Sale, Max Fried, Reynaldo Lopez, and Charlie Morton in the top four, while rookie Spencer Schwellenbach has looked very good.

That being said, as we have all too frequently witnessed this season, things can change drastically in an instant. Jack Flaherty would be a top target the moment one of the Braves’ top four pitchers suffered an injury or began to struggle severely before the trade deadline.

After signing a one-year contract with Detroit this past offseason, he was able to get his career back on track with the Tigers. He was once one of the best young pitchers in the league, but a series of injuries derailed it. He has a 3.01 ERA, 2.63 FIP, 0.953 WHIP, and an astounding 11.6 K/9 in 13 starts. If the Tigers allow him to be available at the trade deadline, Flaherty is pitching like an All-Star once more and will be among the most sought-after commodities.

Canha Mark

The majority of trade deadline articles on the Braves center on starting pitchers and outfielders. Although the Tigers don’t have many either, Mark Canha might be a wise addition to help the Braves outfield, aside from Jack Flaherty. He has a.785 OPS and 119 OPS+ (19% over league average) since 2018. In addition, he is a seasoned player with nearly perfect splits throughout his career, with an OPS of.770 versus righties and.768 against lefties.
