By selecting offensive lineman Olu Fashanu, a superb player from Penn State, the New York Jets filled a crucial need and strengthened a position that had been vulnerable in recent years. Arriving in the NFL after an outstanding college season in which he played 722 snaps, gave up just 10 pressures, and astonishingly, gave up zero sacks, the 21-year-old was selected 11th overall.

But for the Jets, who had a difficult season despite being 30th in pass protection with 50 sacks and 280 pressures allowed, it was critical to prioritize the offensive line. Douglas was adamant that the ailments that beset their line would not recur in 2024, thus investing in Fashanu was a calculated move to ensure long-term security at the tackle position.
