Game 2 of the NBA Finals between the Dallas Mavericks and the Boston Celtics will take place on Sunday at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Coach Jason Kidd told reporters that there’s “no panic” among his team after their 107-89 loss in Game 1.

Following practice on Saturday, Kidd remarked, “There’s no panic with this group.” “In Game 1, we didn’t play well. Boston deserves recognition; they did. However, it’s a sequence. We don’t focus on or take advantage of a single game. We’ve responded after numerous Game 1 losses. In Game 2, we think we can respond.”

The Mavericks suffered their first-round losses to the Los Angeles Clippers in the Western Conference first round and to the Oklahoma City Thunder in the semifinals. They fell behind by a minimum of 25 points in each of the three first games, not counting the Celtics defeat. According to ESPN Stats & Information, no team has ever accomplished this in NBA history. It’s also true, though, that the Mavericks rallied to defeat the Thunder and the Clippers.

In their Thursday loss to the Celtics, the Mavericks shot 35 for 84 from the field and 7 for 27 from three-point range. Luka Doncic was the only player to score more than fifteen points with a double-double of thirty points and ten rebounds; only four other players reached double digits. Still, he only provided one assist.

Doncic stated, “I think just be a little bit more aggressive.” “I believe there wasn’t much of an energy when we arrived for the game. Therefore, I believe that we need to start using our energy more wisely right away.”

Kyrie Irving, the other member of the Mavericks’ elite combo, only managed to score 12 points after missing 13 of his 19 field goals. For the squad to have any hope in Game 2, he must recover.

“I failed miserably, while also not knowing how to compartmentalize or accept the emotions that come with failure,” Irving stated to reporters. “And also being on the successful side, (I) didn’t know how to handle that either.”
