ESPN news: Knicks likely to steal Kansas talented top-five star freshman in the NBA in 2024.
In the 2024 NBA Draft, the Kansas freshman with the most potential could be selected by the New York Knicks.
Kansas wing Johnny Furphy is expected to be a late first-round choice with significant promise in this year’s draft, according to ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo. This gives the Knicks the opportunity to add him to their roster (h/t Jeremy Brener of Fan Nation’s All Knicks):
Kansas-style wings ESPN’s Jonathan Givony and Jeremy Woo predict that Johnny Furphy will be selected late in the first round of this year’s draft and that he has a lot of promise. This presents the Knicks with the chance to sign him (via Jeremy Brener of Fan Nation’s All Knicks):
A productive off-guard/forward might be selected by the Knicks in the first round of the 2024 NBA Draft.
In 24.1 minutes played for the Jayhawks the previous season, Furphy averaged nine points, 4.9 rebounds, and 0.9 steals a game while shooting 46.6 percent from the field and 35.2 percent from three-point range. In 2023–24, he scored 15 points or more in eight different games, all of which featured at least 55.6 percent shooting from the field and 40 percent or higher from beyond the arc.
His 6-8, 202-pound build, which is NBA-ready, is boosting his stock. Under Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau, the huge guard/forward prospect from Australia may even get time at the four, covering a critical need for the team.
The Knicks might find Johnny Furphy to be a successful investment.
This offseason, the Knicks have a lot of needs, but Furphy might be a nice pick for New York to grow with time. Furphy will be a player of interest with the Knicks’ next pick, which comes at No. 25 overall, along with other combination forwards who could back up or spell All-Star Julius Randle in 2024–25, should they decide to select a center with the No. 24 overall pick—which is now their most pressing need.
