Tommy Edman Is The Latest Unlikely Star In St. Louis | FiveThirtyEight

The closer the July 30 trade deadline draws, the more the Los Angeles Dodgers will concentrate on adding a hitter.

There hasn’t been any trouble at the top of the lineup, as Mookie Betts, Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, and Will Smith might form one of the greatest top four lineups in Major League Baseball ever.

Teoscar Hernández is another player that has been a fantastic addition to the Los Angeles roster this season.

After it, though, there is a significant decline.

Max Muncy has an oblique that has kept him out of action, and there is no projected return date. After that, a number of players have come and gone, including James Outman, who was optioned to Triple-A, Gavin Lux, Chris Taylor, Miguel Rojas, Kiké Hernández, Jason Heyward, and Andy Pages.

The Dodgers might eventually decide it’s time to move on and get a new bat because only Rojas and Pages have shown promise at the plate. Jon Heyman of the New York Post mentioned a potential candidate.

Heyman reports that if St. Louis decides to become a seller, the Dodgers may target Tommy Edman, a utility player for the Cardinals.

In his sixth season in Major League Baseball, 29-year-old Edman hasn’t played because of a wrist injury. Although he is on the 60-day disabled list at the moment, his return is anticipated before the trade deadline.

Having participated in at least 135 games in the previous three seasons, Edman finished 2023 with a.248 average, 13 home runs, and 47 RBIs.

With an OPS of.726 and a career slash line of.265/.319/.408, he has played every position on the diamond, including shortstop, second base, third base, and all three outfield positions. In 2021, Edman even took home a Gold Glove from second base.

Edman, a switch-hitting utility man who is under team control for another year, may be a valuable asset to Los Angeles.
