Jermaine Eluemunor self-proclaimed 'luckiest guy in the NFL' for facing Maxx Crosby every day in Raiders camp - Yahoo Sports

Eluemunor starts the season at left guard.

In the most recent episode of the venerable soap opera “watch the New York Giants try to fix their offensive line,” Carmen Bricillo took Bobby Johnson’s place as offensive line coach.

One of the player’s best friends, Jermaine Eluemunor, who signed a free agent contract with the Raiders in the summer, will be joining the former offensive line coach of the New England Patriots and Las Vegas Raiders in New York.

What benefits does Eluemunor offer the Giants? As we continue our player-by-player analysis of the Giants’ 90-man roster, let’s take a peek.

Career thus far
The Baltimore Ravens selected Eluemunor in the fifth round (159th overall) of the 2017 NFL Draft. He was a player for the Patriots, Raiders, and Ravens. Prior to joining the Raiders in 2022 and starting 31 of 34 games in the previous two seasons, he had never been a full-time starter.

Throughout his career, Eluemunor has been a versatile player who has played all positions save center. Eluemunor’s snap totals over his career are broken down as follows:

LT, 422 LG, 11 RG, 534 RT, 1,861

Eluemunor has received Pro Football Focus grades of 68.0 (2020), 59.8 (2021), 75.3 (2022), and 68.5 (2023) over the last four seasons. Over the course of those two seasons, he has allowed a total of nine sacks in more than 1,100 pass blocking snaps, but he has recorded pass blocking efficiency scores of 97.4 (2022) and 96.8 (2023).

It appears that Eluemunor and Bricillo’s careers have advanced in tandem. Here is Eluemunor’s perspective on their union:

2024 projections
The Giants’ use of Eluemunor at left guard is an intriguing move that has generated a lot of discussion among Giants supporters. Eluemunor has obviously played the least at that position during his NFL career, as can be seen above.

To my knowledge, Bricillo has not provided a good explanation for the placement of Jon Runyan Jr., who has played both guard positions, on the right and Eluemunor on the left. Recently, head coach Brian Daboll gave the impression that the Giants’ desire to have Runyan between young players Evan Neal and John Michael Schmitz was a major factor.

It’s important to remember that after spending so much time with Eluemunor and witnessing him perform well at left tackle, Bricillo must have seen enough of Eluemunor’s left side play in practices and games to conclude that Eluemunor is capable of handling that position. At 6 feet 4 inches and 338 pounds, he is definitely the right size.

Naturally, Eluemunor might end up at right tackle if the Giants decide that Neal isn’t going to be able to perform the job.

I’ve come to think that Eluemunor is currently at left guard for another purpose because of this. The majority of Aaron Stinnie’s and Josh Ezeudu’s experience is at left guard; both are expected to make the team. Neal also played left guard for a year at Alabama. In the event that Eluemunor decides to move, the Giants may have the easiest time filling the left guard position.

Eluemunor is a crucial member of the Giants’ redesigned offensive line, no matter where he plays.
