IU basketball recruiting: Hoosiers offer 2025 top-20 wing Jamier Jones – The Daily Hoosier

South Carolina basketball target Jamier Jones (a 5-star forward from Florida) announced his college choice on Sunday afternoon.

The South Carolina basketball team, along with the Kansas Jayhawks, Providence Friars, Houston Cougars, Ohio State Buckeyes, and LSU Tigers, were among the top six teams in April for 5-star forward recruit Jamier Jones. Along with revealing his final six, Jones—one of the best athletes in the nation for the class of 2025—also included a commitment date announcement.

It was Sunday, the 12th of May.

Jamier Jones said live on Instagram with Joe Tipton of On3 on Mother’s Day afternoon that he would play for the Providence Friars and head coach Kim English.

In basketball, a commitment is not the same as in football. In most cases, athletes end up enrolling at the university where they pledge. Nevertheless, there have been instances recently where that hasn’t been the case for the Gamecocks: Trent Noah committed and signed with the South Carolina Gamecocks before joining the Kentucky Wildcats, while Cam Scott committed and signed with the Texas Longhorns prior to joining the Gamecocks. Jamarii Thomas, a VCU transfer portal commitment, was also just flipped by USC.

Although there is no reason to believe Jones will wind up somewhere other than Providence, it is important to keep in mind that Carolina has been involved in some unusual recruitments given the current recruiting frenzy.

The South Carolina basketball program already has two high school commitments in the class of 2025: athletic in-state forward Hayden Assemian and 4-star scoring guard Eli Ellis committed to play for Lamont Paris and his team back in the fall.

Coach Paris and his staff will continue to recruit from the high school levels and the transfer portal in an effort to fill up the roster for both the upcoming season and the future, with five seniors (so far) on the roster heading into the 2024–2025 season and one scholarship seat remaining available.
