What happened to Lars Nootbaar? Cardinals slugger forced to exit game vs Athletics early

For Lars Nootbaar and the Cardinals, it’s another difficult break.

The St. Louis Cardinals got awful news about starting right fielder Lars Nootbaar during their greatest run of the season. With an oblique strain, the Cardinals declared on Friday that Nootbaar will be placed on the 10-day injured list, retroactive to May 30. In order to replace Nootbaar on the playing roster, St. Louis is summoning infielder Jose Fermin.

After taking a swing in Wednesday’s top of the seventh inning of a Cardinals victory, Nootbaar seemed to prefer his left side. He continued to play and got to base on an infield single, but in the bottom of the eighth he was pulled from the game.

Unfortunately, a large portion of Nootbaar’s professional career has been marred by injuries. Since the 2023 season began, the 26-year-old has spent five different periods of time on the disabled list.

This season, Nootbaar has been placed on the injured list twice. Recovering from a rib contusion that he sustained in late March, he missed the opening two weeks of the season.

After inconsistent play at the bat, Nootbaar was finally heating up and is a regular contributor for the Cardinals when healthy. In his last four games, he had seven hits, and in his last ten games, he had safely reached base nine times. In 22 May games, Nootbaar’s hitting average was.275.

Nootbaar is a.234 hitter overall in 39 games in 2024 with five home runs, 19 RBIs, and 14 runs scored.

The Cardinals are not too happy about having to substitute Lars Nootbaar in the lineup on a regular basis. However, some players—like Nootbaar throughout the previous two seasons—just can’t seem to stay healthy.

The Cardinals are settling down as June draws near.

After a dismal 2023, the Cardinals had high aspirations going into the season. After two months of the 2024 campaign, St. Louis appears to be making the right moves at last.

The Cardinals have now won the series five times in a row after defeating the Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday. They have improved to 8-2 over their last ten games. The Cardinals are back to.500 at 27-27, their best mark since April 17.

St. Louis is attempting to separate itself from a group of NL Central clubs that are vying for the division title with the Milwaukee Brewers. St. Louis and Cincinnati are separated by one game, with the second-place Cardinals behind the Brewers by five games.

A few weeks prior, there was a query regarding the Cardinals’ potential status as sellers at the trade deadline. Those appear to be put to rest for the time being, and if St. Louis keeps growing calmer, that will only become the case.

This weekend, the Cardinals will take on the Philadelphia Phillies in a difficult series in an effort to continue their winning streak. The Phillies had the best record in baseball going into the three-game series. A road series victory could be the game-changing event for St. Louis this season.
