Oklahoma has been looking for a new PWO signal caller in an effort to improve their depth after losing a couple of their favorite walk-on quarterbacks. Wasel offers precisely that.
Wasel, a native of the state who gets to return home, adds another FBS caliber arm to Oklahoma’s already formidable group of quarterbacks, which is led by Jackson Arnold, a former five-star who will soon be a full-time starter. There is a lot of depth in the room beyond Arnold, with Florida Atlantic transfer Casey Thompson—who has previously attended Texas and Nebraska—likely leading the pack for the No. 2 spot.
True freshman Michael Hawkins and Northwestern transfer Brendan Zurbrugg make up the remaining roster, with Wasel stepping in to take General Booty’s place. Booty pledged to Louisiana-Monroe at an earlier stage of the portal cycle after spring break.
Wasel becomes the latest addition to a transfer portal class that has shown to be fairly successful for the Sooners in the post-spring cycle. TCU’s defensive end Damonic Williams and SMU’s offensive lineman Branson Hickman are two possible starters that the team has already signed.
SEC Media Days are scheduled for mid-July, and Oklahoma has already started summer workouts in Norman. Fall camp will begin in early August. All of this builds up to OU’s inaugural SEC season, which begins on Friday, August 30 at Gaylord Family – Oklahoma Memorial Stadium in Norman at home versus Temple.
