Jim Everett went after Jim Rome on live TV 26 years ago

Everyone is closely monitoring all of the adjustments that have been made as the Los Angeles Rams prepare for Week 1 of the 2024 season. One particularly astute observer recently made a comment regarding one of the more significant adjustments to the offense that Matthew Stafford would need some time to get adjusted to.

Jim Everett, a former quarterback for the Rams, pointed out that the switch from Coleman Shelton to Steve Avila at center means there will be a transition period at one of the most crucial offensive spots: the center-quarterback exchange.

Avila is the fourth center from whom Stafford has taken snaps since joining the Rams in 2021. Everett observes that the handoff from a left-handed to a right-handed snapper has changed. Two righties and two lefties have given the ball to Stafford. However, Everett stated in a special interview with LAFB that there is usually a transition phase when a new center takes over, adding, “Every center has their own setup and quirks.QBs just need to get used to it.

Everett added that this situation isn’t unusual and shouldn’t be worrying, but he likened it to being kicked by a left-footed kicker to a lesser extent.

“Perhaps punters have a greater deal with it than snappers, but the spin concept is the same.”
