Contrary to what NFL news aggregator Dov Kleiman claimed in a recent social media post, Hayden Hopkins is not pregnant with Las Vegas Raiders owner Mark Davis’ child. “It is completely false that Mark Davis is the father of my child,” 26-year-old Hopkins stated on Monday, May 27, via X. “I was pictured sitting next to him at a game in 2022 and have endured false rumors of a romantic relationship since.”

With Carter Bradley, Anthony Brown Jr., and Gardner Minshew II joining the club this summer, there is undoubtedly competition for the position. Prior to being asked to contribute, O’Connell and Minshew began the previous season as their respective teams’ backup quarterbacks. O’Connell passed for 2,218 yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games in 2023, while the former quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts passed for 3,305 yards and 15 touchdowns in 13 starts, including a Week 17 victory over the Raiders by a score of 23-20.
Earlier in the offseason, Antonio Pierce stated, “Minshew is right there doing it as well, and Aidan has already kind of taken the bull by the horns.” “That’s two guys that have played. As rookies attempting to make the roster, M.J. Devonshire and Trey Taylor are now competing on the same field.
Although they are both outstanding players in their own way, the defensive backs were the Raiders’ final two draft selections in the 2024 Draft. At the University of Pittsburgh, Devonshire had a greater influence on special teams; in 2022, he was selected to the Second Team All-ACC return specialist. With the Panthers, he also recorded three interceptions that were returned for touchdowns.
“I take a lot of pride in just being able to do things. Versatility is a big thing growing up where I’m from,” Devonshire added. “Just being able to do things with the ball in your hands. It’s not only playing corner on the outside, it’s shutting guys down. You’ve got to be able to do something when the opportunity presents itself. So, it’s a big thing to be able to be versatile and help the team win in any way possible.”
Taylor won the 2023 Jim Thorpe Award, which is presented to the greatest defensive back in the country, for his outstanding play as a safety at Air Force. In the 2024 East-West Shrine Bowl, the All-American was also awarded the Pat Tillman Award for his outstanding service, sportsmanship, intelligence, and character.
“When we brought Trey in for a 30-visit, he was really remarkable and mature. “It is evident why he achieved success in college,” Pierce remarked at rookie minicamp. “I believe he has a fantastic chance to support us, particularly in the kicking game. The Raiders may bring in another seasoned defensive back to the roster; Xavien Howard was suggested as a possibility in last week’s Mailbag.
While the likelihood of adding Howard is now difficult to predict, the signing would make sense. The former cornerback with the Miami Dolphins was a teammate of Christian Wilkins, Adam Butler, and John Jenkins, three defensive players who relocated to the desert. It’s also irrelevant to mention that Patrick Graham served as Miami’s defensive coordinator for Howard in 2019.
Even though the Raiders secondary has shown signs of improvement, it is still a young group. With eight seasons under his belt and four Pro Bowl appearances, the player is capable of leading the defense as a whole and not just the secondary.

“The Raiders defense became very good last year. What does it take to go from very good to great, like 2000 Ravens great?”
It’s funny you mention the 2000 Baltimore Ravens, Peter. Marvin Lewis, the Raiders assistant head coach, was the defensive coordinator of that Super Bowl-winning team.
In actuality, the defense of the Las Vegas Raiders was strong in 2023. In Week 9, the defense allowed just 16 points and less than 230 passing yards per game after the mid-season coaching change. In that time, it also generated 14 turnovers, which was more than it did in the whole previous season. Wilkins’ signing, along with the ongoing development of Malcolm Koonce, Jack Jones, and Nate Hobbs, among others, will only make the defense stronger.
Patrick Graham provided his response when asked how the Raiders defense can improve from decent to exceptional.
The defensive coordinator for the Raiders advised, “Put in the work.” “Put in the work, keep extending the goal a little bit each day. I know all the guys talk about one percent each day, that’s what we’ve got to do. Just put in the work, keep pushing that line forward a little bit more, and we’ll see how the chips fall. But that’s the most important thing, and thankfully, we have a bunch of guys on the team who are high achievers. I like to think of myself as someone that wants to achieve high goals, and we set those goals, and we do what we’ve got to do to try to accomplish them.”
