Sad news: Broncos coach reject a five star player deal suggestion for selfish reasons…….

NRL news 2024, Andrew Johns exclusive on Reece Walsh bargain contract for Brisbane Broncos

Walsh should play his game, according to the Maroons coach.

Reece Walsh is a gun fullback for the Maroons, but his many mistakes have partly eclipsed his moments of brilliance. Billy Slater has rejected suggestions that he should bring Walsh in. Walsh’s amazing speed and agility were on full display in Brisbane’s shocking 36-34 loss to the Gold Coast on Sunday, but so were his shoddy handling and decision-making.

Walsh finished with 182 run meters, two try assists, seven tackle breaks, and two line breaks, but he also committed three extremely expensive errors. The fullback was previously cautioned by Brisbane coach Kevin Walters to “take a chill pill” and play the play that is in front of him following a series of mistakes in Brisbane’s 40-18 loss to the Roosters earlier this month. Earlier this month, Walters stated, “Walshy needs to take a chill pill and just relax himself and get himself into the game.”

It is during the course of the game that his skill set will become more evident. Nothing occurs instantly. Walsh and other young NRL players are still learning the ins and outs of playing in various game scenarios, including those involving the scoreboard and time clock. Everyone had an excellent learning experience last week.”

That being said, Slater disagrees with Walters a great deal, even in spite of the cries to chain Walsh. During a Monday interview, the Maroons coach expressed his desire for the standout fullback to continue being a regular livewire. Slater declared, “I want ‘the Reece Walsh,’ I want him.”

Reece Walsh is a terrific player, and we want the best version of him. There won’t be any medication in our camp.

However, Walsh’s mistakes, according to Darren Lockyer, are a product of his inexperience and will eventually go away as he gains more playing time. It is simply time to take a seat. After a little while, you start to feel a little more at ease,” Lockyer remarked after the Broncos’ defeat.

We discuss Reece’s contributions to the game, and everyone agrees that they are wonderful. His contributions to the squad are entertaining, dynamic, and sparky, but occasionally he has to put the team’s demands ahead of his own.

Billy Slater gives Reece Walsh a lot of credit.
Walsh was a standout for the Maroons last season at fullback after being summoned into the team in Ponga’s absence. Ponga had prioritized his club commitments while he healed from a string of serious concussions. And choosing Walsh made sense because Ponga was out due to injury.

Slater was all love for Walsh when he spoke prior to Game I. “Reece brings an abundance. To be honest, I have truly liked working with Reece over the past few years,” Slater remarked.

It’s been a long road, but I’ve enjoyed watching Walsh come to prominence and improve his game in addition to his excellent contributions. He now has a really solid football foundation, and I am excited to see him when he reports to camp.”
