Caitlin Clark, a terrific rookie for the Indiana Fever, spoke to Kate Martin, a rookie for the Las Vegas Aces and a former colleague of hers, during an Iowa-heavy night in Las Vegas.

The first-choice pick in the WNBA draft, Clark, spent four seasons on the court alongside Martin and made two trips to the Final Four. There was a close call on their final Hawkeyes dance between the two stars.

“And I was the one who kind of begged her to come back for her sixth year,” Clark said to the media on May 25, prior to the Fever’s 99-80 loss to the Aces. Thus, I’m confident that she doesn’t now regret that.

Although Martin and Iowa were overshadowed by Clark in the early stages of their WNBA careers, Martin prevailed on May 25. Clark managed just 8 points while Martin scored 12.

The two former Iowa teammates hugged and had a heartfelt pregame chat.

Kate is undoubtedly one of my closest pals, according to Clark. However, we have spoken each and every day. Every every day, I’ve texted and called her. Everything Coach [Becky] Hammon says about her is really accurate, and I’m just so pleased for her. And everyone who participated in our program and played at Iowa knows this to be true.

She is the ideal member of a team. She is the ideal individual. supreme boss. Clark continued, “She will exert every effort on behalf of her squad. “She’s just a winner; she’s just a really selfless person.”

Kate Martin: “That Was Strange”
Martin described it as “strange” that they were wearing different uniforms.

In the postgame broadcast interview, Martin stated, “I’m not gonna lie, it was weird.” It was clear to see that she was wearing a different jersey than mine when I turned to look out onto the floor. But it’s a lot of fun. Right now, we’re both pursuing our dreams and competing at the greatest level; for that, we’re both incredibly appreciative.

Coaches and supporters from Iowa attended the competition held at Michelob Ultra Arena in Paradise, Nevada, featuring the former Hawkeye players. Megan Gustafson, a former standout player for the Hawkeyes, is also a member of the Aces roster. Despite foul trouble, she played eight minutes.

“Having your former college coaches sitting courtside next to the bench is really cool, but…” It’s a really enjoyable team to be a part of, and Las Vegas just has a fun atmosphere here,” Martin remarked. “I feel really grateful to be a part of this organization and have the fan support that we do here, and that’s cool a lot of Hawkeye nation can come out tonight as well.”

Martin was selected in the second round of the WNBA draft this year and immediately became an asset for the defending champion Aces (3-1). In 20.5 minutes per game, she averages 1.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.5 assists.

Despite putting up 16.7 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 6.2 assists for a 1-6 Fever team, Clark’s debut season seemed very different. This was her second attempt at failing to score in double figures.

With an NCAA record 3,951 points, Clark at Iowa became renowned as a prolific scorer.
