Injury update: Phillies’ three most influencial star men out for six months

Phillies' Trea Turner exits game against the Mets with a bruised elbow, but will play on Tuesday

Trea Turner, who has been recovering from a hamstring ailment that occurred 22 days ago, ran harder on Saturday at Coors Field.

Rob Thomson, the manager, stated on Friday that Turner will have a “heavy day” on Saturday. Running and taking ground balls, he hit in the batting cage.

Turner might run the bases in San Francisco, where the Phillies play from Monday through Wednesday, based on how he feels after working out on Saturday. That would be the next phase of his healing process.

The Phillies would prefer to watch Turner hit in a live batting practice or simulated game environment in addition to seeing him run the bases. He might then start a rehab assignment from there.

Turner is putting in a lot of effort and feels well so far, but the Phillies are being cautious with him. A player who returns from an injury too soon runs the danger of exacerbating it, and his recovery time may increase if he re-injures the hamstring.

Marte starts his rehab assignment.

Yunior Marte, a right-handed reliever, was supposed to start the game against Rochester after starting a rehab assignment with Triple A Lehigh Valley on Saturday.

Marte has been out since May 1 due to tendinitis in his right shoulder. After 12 appearances this season, his ERA is 2.70. After allowing just one run in his first nine and a half innings, he gave up three earned runs in his following three innings and was placed on the disabled list.

We still have some time. We’ll check a lot of boxes and make sure he’s ready to travel,” Thomson remarked.

At last, Marchan performing

Rafael Marchan, the 40-man roster’s only other backstop aside from J.T. Realmuto and Garrett Stubbs, is currently two weeks into his rehab assignment. After spending four games with Class A Clearwater, he was sent to Triple A and has already played four games there as well.

“(He’s doing) good, catching a lot, caught nine yesterday, he’s catching nine today,” Thomson stated. “Loading the ball, making good catches, and striking out opponents. He is performing admirably.”

Marchan’s hand fracture, hamstring strain, and back problems have kept him on the disabled list for a significant portion of the last three seasons. In the unlikely event that the Phillies lose Realmuto or Stubbs for an extended period of time, the 25-year-old is a crucial depth component. Before Marchan’s return, Aramis Garcia had caught most of the games at Triple A, but he is only hitting.172.

After hitting a three-run home run in the ninth inning, the Phillies defeated the Rockies 8–4.

The Phillies, who had lost their previous six games, recovered to defeat the Colorado Rockies 8–4 on Saturday night, partly because of a three-run home run by Bryce Harper during the team’s six-run ninth inning.

The Phillies struck first, trailing 3-2 in the ninth, to snap the Rockies’ personal five-game home winning streak. Justin Lawrence (1-3) relieved after Jalen Beeks allowed Brandon Marsh to draw a leadoff walk, and Edmundo Sosa’s RBI triple welcomed him. After that, Garrett Stubbs led the Phillies to a 4-3 lead with an RBI single.

“It was pretty cool to be able to just come up in an opportunity like that and take advantage of it,” Stubbs commented. “And then watch everybody else just kind of pile it on.”

Kyle Schwarber doubled for his third hit of the game after Kody Clemens grounded into a double play, and Bryson Stott also walked. Harper launched a pitch from John Curtiss over the left field fence for his 13th home run of the season after being ejected in the first inning of Friday’s 11-inning defeat to the Rockies for disputing a strike call.

The manager of the Phillies, Rob Thomson, described Harper as “a superstar and that’s what they do.”

An RBI single by Nick Castellanos ended Philadelphia’s fury. So far, Philadelphia has emerged victorious from eight games.

In relief, José Ruiz (1-0) pitched a scoreless inning to get the victory. Dakota Hudson, who pitched six innings and gave up two runs on five hits, had a strong outing for the Rockies, and Lawrence bemoaned his inability to seal the deal for his club.

“Just frustration,” remarked Lawrence, who had missed three out of five save opportunities. “You just want to finish it off and I feel like it’s a couple times now that spoiled some really, really good starts by our guys.”

With his two-out RBI double in the ninth inning for the Rockies, Charlie Blackmon recorded his 600th career extra-base hit, which is the second-most in Rockies team history. Two singles and a career-high three bases stolen were recorded by Brenton Doyle.

As he dove to make the final out of the first inning on a sinking liner by Castellanos, Rockies left fielder Jordan Beck exited after taking a heavy fall on his glove hand. Manager Bud Black said that Beck had a broken hand following the game. There was no schedule for his immediate return.

The Phillies closed the gap to one run in the top of the fifth inning on Schwarber’s sacrifice fly, which sent Stubbs home from third base following a delayed steal. The Rockies had taken a 3-1 lead against Aaron Nola.

Philadelphia scored their first run when Harper singled in the first inning, but Colorado scored one run in each of the first three innings thanks to singles from Brendan Rodgers, Kris Bryant’s groundout that scored a run, and Hunter Goodman’s fielder’s choice that scored Doyle from third after he had singled and stolen second.
