It will be the Razorbacks’ first trip back to Stillwater in almost 50 years. In 1978, Arkansas football defeated Jim Stanley’s 3-8 Cowboys 19-7, but this time around the Hogs could not be as fortunate, possibly snapping a 5-game winning streak.

After finishing 10-4 the previous season, Oklahoma State faced Texas for the Big 12 championship and defeated ranked opponents No. 23 Kansas and No. 9 Oklahoma. But three of their four defeats were huge puzzles, such as lopsided losses of 45-3 to UCF and 33-7 to South Alabama.

Perhaps that is related to the study of 247 Sports. Brad Crawford believes there is a chance for an upset, rating the game among the top ten. It may be some time before people in Arkansas feel comfortable enough to call the upset. However, with so many new offensive components, the Hogs have promise.

Crawford writes, “In order to explain why he believes Arkansas can pull it off,”

“Who’s betting on the Razorbacks to defeat Oklahoma State away in Week 2, despite having a head coach on one of the hottest seats in the SEC? Very few, if any. This sets the game in Stillwater poised for a possible upset. This autumn, the Cowboys will have the highest number of returning starters of any collegiate football team. Meanwhile, Arkansas’ first team is made up of a combination of transfer portal additions and returning players. Bobby Petrino’s entire offensive spread will be seen for the first time this weekend as Arkansas takes on Arkansas-Pine Bluff in its first game.”

The matchup against UABP in the nonconference is a huge benefit. Not since 2018 has Coach Petrino’s offense been seen at the Power Four level. During Petrino’s lone season at A&M, Jimbo Fisher had all the power, so Oklahoma State won’t know what to expect in Stillwater.

Should Arkansas manage to upset the Cowboys, things might get better this season. However, if Arkansas loses badly, Sam Pittman’s already heated situation might get even worse.

The 10 Most Underappreciated Arkansas Football Players of the Past Decade - Arkansas Fight

In 2024, Arkansas football will have another challenging schedule. With the exception of Alabama, the Razorbacks feature players from Texas and Tennessee as well as other familiar faces from the former SEC West.

USA Today has revealed their picks for each of the nation’s Power Four teams, and the national publication isn’t giving Arkansas any love. According to USA Today, the Razorbacks will only win four games this season and have a losing record. Although the estimate looks a little low, it makes sense given the number of unknowns surrounding this football club.

But Bobby Petrino is well known in Fayetteville. Fans in Arkansas are aware that last season, the Razorbacks were one capable offensive coordinator away from being a competitive football club. at 2023, the Hogs came close to defeating Alabama at Tuscaloosa and LSU in Baton Rouge. Yes, Arkansas eventually let go of the rope, but that is unimportant.

This season, the Razorbacks have a good chance of making it to a bowl game. A six and six record may not make many people happy, but it might be plenty to keep Sam Pittman employed.

People are going to be surprised by Taylen Green. Although the third-year quarterback at Boise State was not as much in the limelight as he would be in the SEC, Arkansas supporters shouldn’t be alarmed based on all that has been released about the young man. His football prowess has already been demonstrated in Razorback Stadium, as has his leadership in the locker room.

Arkansas will be stronger in 2024 with Green and Petrino spearheading the attack. With Travis Williams leading the defense as the coordinator, the defense is also in capable hands. With just those two coordinators, the Razorbacks ought to be able to secure one or two more victories.
