Even with Daniel Jones back, 25-year-old signal-caller Tommy DeVito, who made waves last season, is keen for another chance to start for the New York Giants in the 2024 NFL season.

DeVito filled in for Tyrod Taylor and Jones during the previous season, starting six games for the Giants and posting a 3-3 record. The undrafted rookie from Illinois was benched in favor of Taylor at halftime during the Giants’ Week 16 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, despite tossing eight touchdown passes to just three interceptions.

“But in the end, as I mentioned, keep working, maintain the chip on my shoulder, and control what you can control. Everyone has always been disregarded, and last year I experienced something similar. I have prior experience with certain scenarios and am aware of the offense. eager to carry out the task once again.”

DeVito also said that in order to recognize the kind of defense he’s facing and know how to properly counter it, he must remain composed. He acknowledged that throughout the offseason, he needed to focus on improving this one of the key areas of the game.

“Taking what the defense gives me,” the young signal caller stated. “I believe that at times I was a touch too combative. got me into some hot water a few times. Two interceptions occurred, one after the other. Back-to-back, it was exactly the same thing. However, thereafter, I thought, ‘Why the fuck did I do that?'”

He’s proud of his candid conversations about his role and future chances with Daboll, even though they included a few on-field gaffes. “Obviously, there is a ton to clean up, whether it’s learning more intricacies of the offense, the deeper meaning of everything versus knowing my job, knowing every person’s job regardless of it’s just a pass or in the run game — helping any way, shape or form between the ears,” he stated.

Now that I have training camp and OTAs, which I didn’t have last year, my progress will be through the roof. That’s actually what it was, then. all mental.”

But DeVito will have to contend with Jones, Drew Lock, and Nathan Rourke for the position of starting quarterback for the Giants. In an attempt to add stability at quarterback, especially as Jones heals from an ACL injury, the team signed Lock to a $5 million, one-year deal.

As additional backup, Rourke was also claimed off waivers by the New England Patriots. DeVito recognizes that “everything happens for a reason” and that it is his responsibility to take advantage of every opportunity as the upcoming season draws near.

“On the field, I demonstrated my abilities. There are, of course, highs and lows. But it’s a difficult situation to find yourself in as a rookie. I made an effort to maximize it and then take charge of what I can manage,” he thought to himself.

On September 8, the Giants and Minnesota Vikings will square off in Week 1 of the NFL season.
