247Sports news: Talented five star player land in kentucky, set to finalise deal with officials
Former Vanderbilt commit Jamie Vinson is back on the hunt and considering Kentucky as a potential destination.
Mark Pope and his staff are pursuing a former SEC commit, so any notions of the Kentucky high school basketball class being finalized have been tossed out the window.
Jamie Vinson had committed to Vanderbilt, but following the season, he resumed recruiting after head coach Jerry Stackhouse was fired. He is currently on a visit to Kentucky with the aim of perhaps joining Pope’s impressive debut squad.
A day after the Wilcats hosted their top transfer target, Chaz Lanier, Vinson is reportedly back on campus at Kentucky.
Vinson, a 6-foot-11, 215-pound center from Oak Hill, Virginia, is rated as a three-star prospect and is pursuing offers from South Carolina, Cal, Rutgers, and other schools. So far, he has made trips to Rutgers and South Carolina.
When Vinson decided to commit to Vanderbilt, 247Sports national recruiting analyst Brandon Jenkins described him as “a high-upside frontcourt prospect who can immediately contribute as a shot alterer.” “Offensively, he shows floor spacing potential and can score with a soft touch around the basket.”
Playing against extremely experienced players like Andrew Carr and Amari Williams in addition to a former McDonald’s All-American in Brandon Garrison every day in practice would prove to be very beneficial for Vinson’s development, even though he would likely be filling the 13th and final scholarship and behind a front court that is full.
Additionally, Vinson is the kind of player that Mark Pope is hoping to add to round out his lineup.
Pope stated last week that the 13th scholarship is a floating component. “Our aim is that it might be for a spot reserved for a young player. A senior player who plans to take a redshirt year may be able to use it. It might serve as a project location. Something for a high-risk guy, perhaps? That’s our perspective.
Vinson would be a part of a top-tier guard class that included Trent Noah, Collin Chandler, and Travis Perry.

Which of Chaz Lanier and Jaxson Robinson will Kentucky get?
Pope still needs to fill two scholarship positions.
As he begins to assemble his first Kentucky Wildcats squad as head coach, Mark Pope has two scholarship places left.
Who will ultimately occupy those positions is the one unanswered question.
The Cats have shown a lot of interest in two players: Jaxon Robinson of BYU and Chaz Lanier of North Florida.
Lanier just got back from a trip to Lexington and spent the weekend at BYU. Now until Wednesday, he is in Tennessee.
Pope hopes to sign a significant player for the 2024 season, so it’s critical that his visit to Lexington this week goes well. This recruiting has been compared to a Kentucky vs. Tennessee matchup.
Regarding Robinson, he has been associated with Kentucky ever since Pope accepted the position, but it is by no means certain that he will wind up in Lexington.
Robinson may choose to enter the draft and begin his professional career while he is still going through the NBA Draft process.
But the excitement around Kansas has already begun to grow, and Robinson might wind up in Lexington if he chooses to return to college.
It will be interesting to watch if Robinson chooses to go back to school or to remain in the draft. Should he decide to go back to school, Kentucky and Kansas might compete for the top guard spot.
We would love to hear from you while we wait! Will Jaxson Robinson or Chaz Lanier end up in Kentucky?
