Goodnews: Texans key man set for a comeback after a successful Cancer Treatments set to resume training

Rookie DE Dylan Horton to be out for indefinite period of time

Although Dylan Horton finished his debut season on the NFI list, he recently saw a positive development in his efforts to get back on the field for the upcoming season. The Hodgkin lymphoma defensive end for the Texans has finished his last course of therapy, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.

Wilson notes that although Horton was in stage four of the illness, it is currently in remission. The good news regarding his therapy opens the door for him to try a comeback in 2024. Last season, the 23-year-old made 10 appearances while playing a part-time role on special teams and defense. During that time, he recorded 13 tackles and one fumble recovery.

Horton’s rookie contract has three years left on it, and if he can avoid cancer, he can continue to play a depth role for the Texans. Last season, the team placed a lot of reliance on Will Anderson, the third overall pick in 2023, who was named Defensive Rookie of the Year for his efforts. For many years to come, Anderson will undoubtedly remain a full-time starter. Houston added Danielle Hunter as a substitute after losing fellow first-team player Jonathan Greenard to free agency.

The latter signed a two-year contract with a guaranteed $48 million, and his hometown team will be counting on him to continue being a top-tier sack artist. A repetition of Hunter’s career-high 16.5 sacks from the previous season would help the Texans build on their unexpected 2023 run to the divisional round of the playoffs. In DeMeco Ryans’ first season as head coach, Houston only finished 17th in the NFL in terms of sacks; therefore, 2024 will see an improvement in that area.

Horton, a TCU product selected in the third round, plans to contribute to that endeavor. Although he will be behind Denico Autry, Anderson, and Hunter in the depth chart this season, his ability to participate in training camp and/or offseason exercises will indicate that he will be ready to go when his second NFL season begins. As the offseason goes on, it will be important to keep an eye on his situation.

Up to Date On Texans Wide Receiver Dell

As one of the victims of an April nightclub shooting, Tank Dell sustained minor injuries, but thus far, his recuperation has gone well. The wide receiver for the Texans, in his second season, is scheduled to participate in the team’s offseason exercises, albeit he might be restricted for the time being.

Dell was struck in the leg, but his injuries only necessitated a short stay in the hospital. According to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2, there was no structural damage, therefore the 24-year-old should fully recover. His trainer addressed the matter by saying that it is unrealistic to expect full participation in the next OTAs and minicamp.

Delfonte Diamond stated, “I believe [head coach] DeMeco [Ryans] will sit him out until the big camp in July” (via Wilson). He’ll undoubtedly observe practice. DeMeco wants him to perform airborne routes. I’m sure he’ll be at practice, but not completely focused.

Naturally, Dell is also recuperating from the fibula fracture that interrupted his promising rookie season. The Houston product’s timeframe to return to full practices has clearly changed, but it was anticipated that he would be healed in time for OTAs before the incident. It would be expected that the team would take a cautious approach considering Dell’s significance to Houston’s passing game.

In 11 games last season, the third-round pick amassed 709 yards and seven touchdowns. During that time, he was targeted eight times or more on five different occasions, which allowed him to get along with quarterback C.J. Stroud right away. While Houston also has Nico Collins, who had a stellar year last season, returning for 2024, getting back on track would help the squad replicate its success from 2023. This offseason, the team acquired Stefon Diggs in a trade, giving Stroud access to even another prominent target.

Nevertheless, Dell showed last season that he could handle starting, so it will be interesting to keep an eye on his recuperation this summer. Right now, though, he ought to resume full involvement by the time training camp starts in the middle of July.
