Arkansas-transfer Financial aid deal between Khalif Battle and Gonzaga is signed.
May 17thWith transfer Khalif Battle’s announcement last week that he would commit to the Bulldogs, Gonzaga supporters have been envisioning all the possible lineup and rotation combinations for the next year. Gonzaga revealed in a news release that the former guard for Arkansas is now officially a part of the team for the 2024–25 college basketball season after the two signed a financial assistance agreement on Thursday.
The 6-foot-6, 185-pound guard played one season at Arkansas, three at Temple, and one at Butler before transferring to Gonzaga for his sixth and final year of eligibility. Gonzaga’s seasoned backcourt, which includes returning starting point guard Ryan Nembhard and shooting guard Nolan Hickman, should see an offensive boost from Battle. Battle averaged 14.8 points and 24.8 minutes per game in his one and only season in the SEC. The guard’s output significantly increased in the final seven games for the Razorbacks, averaging 6.3 rebounds and scoring 29.6 points.
Along with Graham Ike (1,354) and Nembhard (1,194), Battle (1,343 points in 101 games over his three previous institutions) will be one of Gonzaga’s three 1,000-point career scorers. Near the conclusion of the 2023–24 campaign, Battle scored 42 points against Missouri, 36 against Vanderbilt, and 24 against Kentucky to amass 113 points against three SEC opponents. Battle finished his junior year at Temple with a career-high 77 3-pointers made, while he finished the previous season at Arkansas with 48 at a 35% shooting percentage. In addition, he shot 87.3% from the field last season, which was enough for fifth place in the SEC, and finished No. 17 nationally with 186 free throws made.
Battle is one of three transfers that might join Gonzaga’s squad in 2024–25. He is a native of Hillsdale, New Jersey. The Bulldogs have signed Michael Ajayi, a wing from Pepperdine, but the West Coast Conference’s leading scorer from the previous campaign is also thinking about entering the NBA draft and hasn’t said which route he’ll choose. Emmanuel Innocenti, a transfer from Tarleton State who was selected all-defensive and all-freshman in the Western Athletic Conference the previous season, made his Gonzaga commitment official on Wednesday.
