There are three contenders to be the next Florida State football commit in 2025.

South Carolina's Football Program Makes Latest Cut For Peyton Joseph - Sports Illustrated South Carolina Gamecocks News, Analysis and More

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Florida State football has the 42nd-best recruiting class. But as supporters, we go through this same thought process each year prior to the coaching staff beginning to build momentum in recruiting. It is common knowledge that a university like Florida State shouldn’t have to settle for the 42nd spot in recruiting rankings.

This is not a piece of writing that lays forth reasons why the team’s recruitment rankings are in the 40s. Still, it is reasonable to evaluate our current situation. We are in May right now, which is seven months ahead of the Early Signing Period in December. Not even official visits have begun yet.

Football at Florida State is set to host a historic recruiting weekend on June 21st, which will bring several highly anticipated talents to campus. Since four-star defensive end Javion Hilson renounced his pledge from the Alabama Crimson Tide, the Seminoles have not been able to gain a commitment.

Let’s dissect three potential 2025 commitments from Florida State in this piece.

IOL PEYTON JOSEPH, A 4-STAR

Given that four-star interior offensive lineman Peyton Joseph recently announced his decommitment from the fiercely competitive Florida Gators, this one would seem to be obvious. Subsequently, he began receiving crystal ball forecasts that were favorable to the Florida State Seminoles.

Since rescinding his committment to the Gators, Joseph has made a few multi-day unofficial visits with the Seminoles program. It’s also important to remember that TJ Ferguson, the offensive lineman of today, is his cousin. As the Seminoles prepare for the summer, that familial bond might be significant.

It was reasonable to estimate the amount of attention offensive coordinator and offensive line coach Alex Atkins was paying to Joseph’s profile. At the offensive line target board, they had multiple prospects listed on their recruiting board. On June 21st weekend, though, the Georgia native will be paying an official visit to the Seminoles.

Gregory Thomas 2025 Cornerback

Given that Atkins has mostly relied on transfer portal acquisitions, it is concerning that he has not demonstrated to his recruits that he plays them in the rotation. He will probably need to rely on some recruits, though, as players like Maurice Smith, Darius Washington, Robert Scott Jr., Richie Leonard IV, and Keiondre Jones will graduate following the 2024 campaign.

CB/S Gregory Thomas, four stars

The advantages of having Patrick Surtain Sr. teach the defensive backs at Florida State have been evident. Surtain Sr. has observed players in the defensive backfield advance to new heights and has attracted quality candidates.

Though it hurts to think about it, the Seminoles were still able to sign Charles Lester III, Ricky Knight III, Jamari Howard, and Cai Bates in the 2024 recruiting class despite losing out on five-star safety prospect KJ Bolden (who signed with the Georgia Bulldogs).

Although the program did not sign any defensive backs for the 2025 recruiting class, they may be in a good position to do so in the near future. Gregory Thomas, a four-star cornerback/safety prospect from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Florida, is this prospect.

Formerly, American Heritage High School’s head football coach was Surtain Sr. Thomas and the defensive backs coach have a close bond. Having made multiple unofficial visits to the program, he has planned an official visit with the Seminoles for the busy weekend of June 21st.

The fact that the Clemson Tigers are still a possibility in his recruiting is concerning. The Seminoles’ official visitation schedule still gives them the last laugh, though, and that is useful.

REDMON THREE-STAR S MAX

Max Redmon 2025 Safety

The Seminole fan base should be aware that this is a more recent name. The coaching staff of the Seminoles is very high on three-star safety Max Redmon from Cardinal Newman High School in West Palm Beach, Florida.

While his star rating may cause some to write him off as a possibility. This agile safety can cover opposing playmakers with his quickness and range.

Redmon will make his official Seminole visit the weekend of June 7th, and 247 Sports’ Zach Blostein and On3’s Steve Wiltfong have already made predictions in favor of Florida State.

It’s also important to note that the gifted defensive back has no official trips planned with colleges other than Florida State. The West Palm Beach native has a strong opportunity to be the next prospect to sign a formal contract with the Seminoles, in my opinion, if everything matches his dimensions.
