DeMeco Ryans leads Texans to AFC South title - Sactown Sports

If JJ Watt decides to come out of retirement, Texans head coach DeMeco Ryans appears to be in favor of him joining the team again.

Under head coach DeMeco Ryans, the Texans have put together a formidable defense. That the former middle linebacker recognizes the value of defensive football is not surprising. Ryans recently appeared on a radio program in which he begged a former legend of the Texans to rejoin the team should they require his services in 2024.

Head coach Ryan Ryans appeared to call JJ Watt’s bluff and say he’s welcome on the Texans on a recent episode of The Rich Eisen Show. After he retires from the NFL in 2022, Watt has stated that he would be willing to play for the Texans again.

Ryans said, “Come on JJ, you ready, let’s go.”

While discussing Watt’s potential return, Ryans laughed and added that he would love to have Watt join the Texans in their endeavors.

Eisen questioned Ryans about Watt’s remarks of coming out of retirement.

Ryans stated, “He did say that; he said it last year and he said it again this year.” “This year, I have to make sure I accept his offer.”

Ryans continued, “The Texans would undoubtedly benefit from having Watt in his back pocket as an emergency option.”

Ryans said, “It is, only if we have to use it.” “We’ll see what’s left, but JJ is a major player, and we’d love to have him involved in our work here.”

Watt would not be in the starting lineup right away if he were to return to the squad. Danielle Hunter and Will Anderson Jr. round out Houston’s roster. As reinforcements, they have other veterans like Derek Barnett and Mario Edwards Jr.

The secondary is the Texans’ lone defensive vulnerability. In addition to Jalen Pitre, Derek Stingley Jr., and Jeff Okudah, Houston selected Kamari Lassiter in the second round of the draft.

previewing the Houston Texans’ NFL schedule for 2024

Since the Houston Texans are a young squad, it makes sense that they would face a challenging schedule in 2024.

For a round-robin match, the AFC South was drawn to play against the NFC North (Bears, Lions, Packers, Vikings) and AFC East (Bills, Dolphins, Jets, Patriots). During the regular season, they will play every team in those divisions on schedule.

A national audience will see a lot of Houston-related content. It’s obvious that the NFL is making every effort to draw as much attention to CJ Stroud as possible.

The Texans will play the Bears in Week 2 and the Lions in Week 10 on Sunday Night Football. Additionally, they will be shown on Monday Night Football in Week 11 against the Cowboys and Thursday Night Football in Week 9 against the Jets. Lastly, they’ll meet the Ravens in a Christmas Day game that can only be streamed on Netflix.

Week 14 is Houston’s bye week, which allows them to rest up before finishing the regular season strong in the postseason.

As the season goes on, the schedule seems to get harder. Houston may have an easier time winning their early games against the Colts, Bears, and Vikings if their opponents are still learning the ropes. But following their bye, they have to battle with teams like Miami, Kansas City, and Baltimore all at once.
