Jamon Dumas-Johnson Commits To Kentucky | Kentucky Football Transfer Portal Update

After three fantastic seasons with Georgia, Jamon Dumas-Johnson transferred to Kentucky. In 2024, he’ll be among the best linebackers in the country once more.

Coming into this offseason, Kentucky needed reinforcements on the defensive end of the ball, and it did not waste any time in adding Georgia linebacker Jamon Dumas-Johnson as one of its important signings.

Dumas-Johnson was an integral part of the Georgia Bulldogs’ two-year drive for back-to-back National Championships. He played 38 games with 24 starts.

He would therefore become one of the more remarkable additions to any team in the nation as soon as he transferred to Kentucky.

Unsurprisingly, Dumas-Johnson made the list of the top 50 “most impactful” moves that could influence the 2024 campaign published by 247Sports. What was noteworthy, though, was where he was mentioned.

Dumas-Johnson was the sixth defensive player and the highest linebacker transfer, ranking No. 18 on the list.

He finished his career with 126 tackles, which included one interception, one forced fumble, 9.5 sacks, seven pass breakups, and 17 tackles for loss.

His output is to be anticipated. Prior to missing four games due to injury in 2023, he was named to the AP Preseason All-America First Team.

He pulled off a fantastic season in 2022, finishing as a First Team AP All-American with 70 tackles, including a team-high nine tackles for loss and four sacks. There were 26 quarterback hurries for him.

“Pop (Jamon) Johnson from Georgia brings an awful lot to our football team,” Mark Stoops, the head coach at Kentucky, stated upon Johnson’s signing. Once more, Pop is a man with incredible expertise who also has a strong desire to join our team, work really hard, and bring that winning culture with him. He will undoubtedly make an instant impact on our program. We’re very happy about him.

Kirby Smart is frank about Georgia football’s difficult 2024 schedule.

The 2024 season will be difficult for the Bulldogs.

Kirby Smart on what has caught his attention from UGA football's spring practice - Georgia

This season’s college football landscape will be altered by conference expansion, which will result in significant adjustments in 2024. With the demise of the Pac-12, the ACC, Big 12, Big Ten, and SEC will all appear significantly different. Both the Big Ten and the SEC appear to be close to becoming two great conferences due to their abundance of talent and the difficult schedules faced by many of their teams. Georgia football is one of such teams. This season, the Bulldogs aim to make a comeback to the pinnacle of collegiate football, but the task will not be easy.

This season, Georgia football will have an extremely challenging schedule in the redesigned SEC. Texas and Oklahoma are the two new clubs, and it is anticipated that the Longhorns will rank among the top teams in college football once more this year. The Bulldogs do not play Oklahoma; they must travel to Texas.

The Bulldogs take on Clemson in Mercedes-Benz Stadium to start the season. They also travel to play Alabama and Ole Miss, as well as a few more difficult games spread out over the schedule. It’s undeniable that their schedule is demanding.

In a recent interview on the Paul Finebaum Show, Georgia football head coach Kirby Smart stated, “We’ll be the favorite in some people’s eyes.” There will be those who will find faults with us. Our timetable is incredibly demanding. It’s difficult because we have three of our conference’s top-15 teams to travel against.

Georgia should once again be among the top teams in college football next season, despite the challenging schedule. The Bulldogs are predicted to be a College Football Playoff team and will be heavy favorites in many of their football games.

“Our football team is strong,” Kirby Smart continued. “The football team we have is incredibly reliable. At Georgia, we always say, “We’re built to sustain.” We wish to be more than just a one-hit wonder. We do not wish to pass away via the site. After a player signs with us, we want to see them develop, become better players who can compete at a higher level and become more valuable members of society.

Kirby Smart is optimistic about Georgia football’s performance in the upcoming campaign.

Kirby Smart is correct; the Georgia football team has established a viable product, and under his leadership, they have now continuously been a competitor for many years running. While the Bulldogs will always be around, several of these teams will also be in the College Football Playoffs the next season. Georgia plays at least three teams that are talented enough to be in the top three, yet they could finish as the fourth-best college football team in the conclusion the following season. Though a number of those games might be coin flips, Smart is optimistic that they’ll be successful.

“I believe our football team will be competitive next year,” Smart stated. “We’ll see where it falls; I don’t know how good we’ll be, or how we’ll play on some really difficult road games.”

Next season, this Georgia squad promises to be a lot of fun to watch and will play a lot of big-stage games. Next year, they’ll play in some of the most eagerly awaited games in college football history, and the whole football world will be watching.
