OU Football Live: Sooners land Carl Albert CB Trystan Haynes

Trystan Haynes, Carl Albert High School’s outstanding in-state cornerback and number 120 overall recruit, has committed to the Oklahoma Sooners.

One of the top prospects for the Oklahoma Sooners in the 2025 cycle has been secured. Prominent in-state defensive back Trystan Haynes declared his commitment to OU on social media.

Haynes joins Oklahoma’s 2025 group as its fifteenth member. He becomes the class’s fourth defensive back and the eighth defensive player to pledge. Haynes selects Oklahoma over Notre Dame, Texas A&M, and Miami, opting to remain inside the Sooner State’s boundaries.

“Just to be able to stay at home and represent my state, and go out and compete with my teammates from Carl Albert, and be able to put Oklahoma on the map as a national powerhouse while we’re competing in the SEC,” Haynes stated. “That’s what mainly did it for me.”

The recruiting community ranks Haynes as the No. 151 overall recruit in the 2024 recruiting class, based on the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Player Rankings. At No. 18, the four-star prospect is ranked among the top-20 cornerbacks in the country and among the top four in Oklahoma. Regarding the 247Sports Network’s particular ranks, however, our group of national specialists has even greater opinions on Haynes’s skills. Haynes ranks No. 119 nationwide in the Top247 of the ’25 cycle, ranking as one of the top-120 prospects overall. According to 247Sports, he is ranked among the top 12 corners in the nation and is regarded as one of the best three players at Oklahoma.

The 247Sports scouting report for Haynes is as follows. Gabe Brooks, a national scouting analyst for the network, provided this. Haynes is compared to Buffalo Bills cornerback Alex Austin as a player:

“Slender and slender physique, yet seems to be the right height. Agile in man coverage, demonstrating both turn-and-run capability and quick recovery times. Large-play maker both in the receiving and return games, with the output to back up that designation. Excellent field speed and promising junior-year track statistics, with numerous 400s below 50.00 and a reliable 21+ long jump talent. In addition to being a viable return option, he excels on covering units for his high school squad and may offer instant special teams value.

Conscious ball hawk with the necessary quickness to hang in man assignments, yet athletic enough to play an area and maintain eye contact. tries to make plays with the ball, but occasionally becomes impatient. Although he still has to gain some weight and strength, he already demonstrates an encouraging desire to participate in tackles rather than run and screen situations. High-major two-way player with defensive upside that might go beyond college as his offensive touches only increase it.”

To put it mildly, there has been a robust pipeline from Norman, Oklahoma to Carl Albert High School. The Sooners have had strong representation at one of the best programs in their state, starting with Xavier Robinson in the previous cycle and continuing with Marcus James, Trynae Washington, and even Kevin Sperry for a spell. However, Haynes’ commitment means that Oklahoma will now witness the final and largest domino to fall as a nationally recognized player prepares to join the OU commitments surrounding him.
