Birmingham City and George Hall: Leeds United 'leading the race' for Blues teen in demand - Birmingham Live

George Hall of Birmingham will need another breakthrough to become a star once more because he has not had the year he had hoped for this time last year.

Currently, meanwhile, the midfield player continues to play for Birmingham and has endured an incredibly difficult season beset by ailments.

Therefore, he will need to have yet another breakout season in his still very early career if he hopes to pique the interest of clubs at a higher level.

The inaugural breakout season of George Hall
Hall had just finished two fantastic years with Birmingham’s under-23 team in 2022, and Premier League academies were reportedly interested in him. Although he made his debut for the team in a game against Queens Park Rangers in January 2022–2022, he wouldn’t fully break through until the start of 2022–2023.

August of the same season saw him score his first goal. Despite a few small injury setbacks, he went on to play in 30 Championship games, score again, and set up a goal for a teammate.

He was named Birmingham’s young player of the season as a result of his outstanding contribution to the team’s efforts that season.

Speaking to the club’s media team after receiving the award, he expressed his desire to keep improving.

“Winning this award, even more so than playing my first game, is crazy to me,” he stated.

“I feel extremely privileged, Championship football is different to academy football and hopefully I can go on to do better next season.”

Hall’s sluggish development this semester
Unfortunately, injuries have prevented Hall from making the kind of development he would have loved to this season.

Since he was a late substitution for the Blues’ opening-day victory over Plymouth Argyle, early signs pointed to him receiving more playing time with the first squad. After that, he started the Carabao Cup match against Cardiff.

But a hamstring injury forced him to leave the game at halftime, and he wouldn’t return to the first team until the beginning of March.

The first team’s absence over the winter months was a result of several injury setbacks. As the Birmingham Mail reported, Hall had already experienced up to four separate hamstring problems throughout the preseason. However, while Wayne Rooney was in the bench, Hall endured additional injury anguish due to a problem with his other hamstring.

Hall has only appeared from the bench under interim manager Gary Rowett since his return in March, but he hopes that things will be different for him the next season.

In order to spark attention again, George Hall has to have another breakout season.
If Hall wants to revive his career and interest from the top levels, he will need a second breakout season.

Birmingham was relegated to the third division even though they defeated Norwich on the last day of the season because clubs in their vicinity earned the necessary number of points.

Final Championship Table 2023/24
Team P GD Pts
19 Blackburn Rovers 46 -14 53
20 Sheffield Wednesday 46 -24 53
21 Plymouth Argyle 46 -11 51
22 Birmingham City 46 -15 50
23 Huddersfield Town 46 -29 45

While Blues supporters are greatly disappointed, Hall may find it bittersweet to return to League One, where he will have a regular spot in the team and an opportunity to truly establish his abilities as he attempts to lead his team back to the Championship. He should also be able to regain his best form with Tony Mowbray, who is highly regarded for his work with young players, back in the dugout.

The 19-year-old midfielder will be eager to make an impression in 2024–25 after such a disappointing season. If he can continue to display the bright talent that attracted Leeds and Liverpool in the past, it wouldn’t be shocking to see new Premier League interest.

With a contract that extends until the summer of 2026, Birmingham’s asset is well-protected for the time being. However, if he can continue to shine next season, they may need to make a significant choice on his future.
