Unbelievable: JJ Watt fire back at Austin Rivers’ comment about NFL players

Austin Rivers finding Nuggets role after 'lapses' during messy Knicks exit

JJ Watt addressed Austin Rivers’ audacious remarks against NFL players on Tuesday via X.

Rivers’ remarks regarding NBA players against NFL players garnered a lot of attention on the internet. On Tuesday, Doc Rivers’ son appeared on “The Pat McAfee Show” and discussed prospective football players who may also play basketball with McAfee.

“At this moment, I can take thirty NBA guys and hurl them into the NFL. On the program, Rivers stated, “You cannot take thirty NFL players and put them in the NBA.”

Watt saw the remarks, which attracted a lot of attention, and replied via X.

The premier defensive player with the Houston Texans dunked heavily on Rivers.

In answer to Rivers, he remarked, “You don’t got a job in either right now, go head and try it.”

Hurt.

Austin Rivers NBA vs. NFL hot take sparked online controversy

Is Rivers going to embrace the challenge? We don’t think so. He doesn’t necessarily think he’s talented enough to play professional football, even if he thinks 30 NBA players could make the transition.

After an 11-year NBA career, the 31-year-old Rivers has made the transition to a post-playing profession of hot opinions. Why would he ruin that and cause himself shame in order to reply to Watt?

The envisioned Commanders Trade Would Picking Jonathan Allen in the first round

Among the offseason changes the Washington Commanders took to strengthen their roster was selecting Jayden Daniels with the second overall choice. But according to USA Today’s Cory Woodroof, the team is still in “rebuild mode” and would be open to adding more draft picks. The Commanders would send Jonathan Allen to the Houston Texans in exchange for a 2025 first-round pick, according to a trade proposal from Woodroof.

First-round pick in 2025 goes to Commanders.

For the Texans: Jonathan Allen

NFL Trade Rumor: Commanders DT Jonathan Allen to NFC North?

In his May 7 piece examining five trades he’d love to see during the summer, Woodroof wrote, “The Commanders are squarely in rebuild mode, and having two high-priced defensive tackles on the roster might be a problem in the future as the team could load up on draft picks while building out its roster for the future.” Although Allen is the defensive line’s most seasoned player, he still merits the opportunity to compete against a young squad like the Texans.

“The Texans should definitely just follow the Los Angeles Rams’ lead and use all of their first-round draft selections in an attempt to win a Super Bowl while quarterback C.J. Stroud is still playing.” Send the Commanders a first-round pick for Allen and add him to your formidable front seven; draft selections are for losers. For the remainder of the AFC this season, this would make the Texans even more terrifying.

The Texans, who finished 10-7 and won a postseason game the previous season, are among the league’s emerging clubs. Since Allen still has two years left on his four-year, $72 million contract that he signed in 2021, he would get to play for a contender for the following two seasons.

CEOs in the League Are Afraid That Commanders Would “Consider Offers” for Jonathan Allen
Jer’Zhan Newton was selected by the Washington Commanders in the second round of the draft, providing them with an additional pass rusher. The signing of Netwon “creates an interesting dynamic at defensive tackle,” per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. League management are unsure whether the Commanders will eventually decide to move Allen, according to Fowler.

Fowler noted on May 7 that while having three talented tackles is certainly not a terrible thing, some league executives are unsure if Washington will ever take bids for Allen, who is owed $15.4 million this year and $16.5 million the following, below market value for high-end tackles. “According to the people I’ve spoken with, Washington will eventually need to either rework his contract or determine whether to consider trade interest, which it has previously rejected.”

It is anticipated that the Commanders’ defense will improve under new head coach Dan Quinn, a defensive-minded coach who most recently served as the Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator. In 2023, the Commanders’ defense allowed the most points per game. Allen, a two-time Pro Bowl pick, will be crucial in resolving the defensive problems.

How Allen Could Assist the Texans in Houston
Throughout the previous three seasons, Allen has shown promise statistically. In 2022, he had 7.5 sacks, while in 2021, he had nine. Allen recorded the second-fewest sacks in 2023—5.5—since his debut season, when he participated in five games.

His lack of sacks, though, might have been due to the Washington Commanders trading Montez Sweat and Chase Young during the season.

Under head coach DeMeco Ryans, the Houston Texans would improve upon their current level of performance. In terms of sacks, points allowed per game, and other important defensive metrics, Ryans guided his squad to top 12 finishes.

Allen, who is 29 years old, would provide them with experience to help them advance following a strong campaign the previous year.
