ESPN news: NHL brothers set to lock horns in Game 7 each tonight

Sheldon Keefe returning as Maple Leafs coach, Brad Treliving confirms | Toronto Sun

On separate days, brothers will skate in Game 7s of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

The Toronto Maple Leafs, led by Nicholas Robertson, will play the Boston Bruins at TD Garden on Saturday at 8 p.m. EST in the series finale of their Eastern Conference first-round playoff series.

Game 7 was necessitated by the Maple Leafs’ 2-1 victory on Thursday night at Scotiabank Arena in Toronto.

After the Vegas Golden Knights defeated the Dallas Stars 2-0 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on Friday night, older brother Jason and his team will play the Golden Knights in Game 7 of their Western Conference first-round playoff series on Sunday at 7:30 EST at the American Airlines Center.

Jason is a left winger in the NHL who is only twenty-four years old.–23 with 46 goals and 63 assists for 109 points.

In the playoffs, he has five points (three goals, two assists).

Sheldon Keefe's new deal with Maple Leafs won't remove all pressure

After injuries hindered his progress, Nicholas, a 22-year-old left wing, is still working to make a name for himself in the National Hockey League. He suffered a broken leg, a knee injury, and a shoulder injury that needed surgery.

In 56 games with Toronto this season, Nicholas finished with 14 goals and 27 points. Over the preceding three seasons, he participated in 31 games overall, scoring three goals and seven points.

In the postseason, he has no points.

Whatever occurs tonight, the Toronto Maple Leafs have a bright future.

After all of the wasted opportunities, bad calls, unforced mistakes, and general bad luck of the Auston Matthews era, the Toronto Maple Leafs are finally in a position to emerge as the NHL’s dominant force that we all predicted they would be years ago.

Over the years, the Toronto Maple Leafs added a number of excellent players to their core, including as John Tavares, who joined as a UFA, and players like Domi and Bunting, but they never developed enough homegrown talent to make a significant impact.

Auston Matthews - Stats, Contract, Salary & More

Every team that has enjoyed a sustained period of success during the Cap Era, as I have stated numerous times over the past few years, has done so by selecting useful players—typically superstars—after the first round.

The Leafs haven’t done that up until now.

Bright Prospects Await the Toronto Maple Leafs Regardless of tonight’s outcome
The game tonight is going to be fantastic, win or lose. You can’t really expect for much more from the Leafs general manager than for them to find themselves in a coin-flip situation against a formidable first-round opponent, given that he didn’t bother to upgrade the roster at the trade deadline.

I think we can now recognize this team’s greatness now that the anxiety that a five-game series would have brought has been eliminated.

Their core still consists of Morgan Rielly and four additional superstars.

However, they may now have developed a #1 goaltender who is truly qualified.

Now they have 4 x effective home-grown forwards that are a) cheap and b) only going to get better in Matthews Knies, Matthew Robertson, Pontus Holmberg and Bobby McMann.

Knies is undoubtedly going to be very successful. Robertson may yet be. Although Holmberg and McMan are incredibly valuable players, who knows how excellent they can be?

This squad has always needed a core to complement the core, and now they have it. Should Woll or Knies achieve superstardom, we may potentially have a dynasty. Who knows? I’m probably just being too positive at the moment.

The squad can do anything, in my opinion, if Auston Matthews and power-play scoring are added to what we’ve seen in the last two games.

Even though the Leafs don’t win or if Auston Matthews doesn’t return to lead them to glory tonight, I will still be extremely satisfied and optimistic about the future.
