ESPN news: Caitlin Clark speech during her postgame interviews
On May 14, the Indiana Fever travel to take on the Connecticut Sun in their regular season opener.
With her official WNBA preseason debut, Caitlin Clark did not let us down.
In the Indiana Fever’s May 3 game against the Dallas Wings, the 22-year-old rookie scored 21 points.
Even though Indiana fell short of Dallas 79–76, Clark put up a strong showing, tying Wings rookie guard Jaelyn Brown for the game’s most points scored.
In postgame interviews, Clark told reporters, “You couldn’t ask for a better game, really, for women’s basketball to kick off this year.” “A fantastic game with both teams competing right up to the last second. That will be the year’s main plot point.
In spite of the fact that there is “a lot to learn,” Clark explained how she and the team performed and that they should feel proud of themselves.
“My main objective going into this game was to stay true to who I am and play with aggression,” Clark stated. “I assumed that was what I had done. I believe there is plenty to be grateful for.
Clark stated prior to the game that she intended to give herself grace and saw her preseason opening as a teaching opportunity.
“The pressure has always been there, regardless of when I started my WNBA career or when I was in college,” she remarked. “I believe that I should approach it in the same manner as always, prepare in the same manner, and have the same level of self-assurance and belief. It’s not just me out there; I get to play with such amazing talent.
The Fever will travel to play the Connecticut Sun on May 14 in their regular-season debut following a May 9 game against the Atlanta Dream. Clark stated that the crew will be getting ready till then.
“There are many positive things to learn from (Friday’s game). Don’t be too disappointed, though; it’s just a preseason game, Clark added. “Just watch the movie again, take away what you can from it, and get ready for our next one.”
After playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes during her college career, Clark became the all-time highest scorer in NCAA Division I basketball history—male or female—with 3,951 points, 1,144 assists, two national player of the year awards, and two national runner-up finishes. Last month, she was also voted the Big Ten player of the year for the third straight season.
The university declared that this year will mark the retirement of her jersey following her historic tenure at Iowa.
The Iowa women’s basketball team tweeted on April 10 that “there will never be another @CaitlinClark22 & there will never be another 22.” Clark’s No. 22 will be retired by the #Hawkeyes.
