Ipswich Town will “hopefully” play in the Premier League next season, according to Neil Warnock.

Earlier in the season, 75-year-old Warnock oversaw Huddersfield Town, Town’s opponent on the last day.

Kieran McKenna’s team would automatically qualify for the top division for the first time in 22 years with just one point.

“This Championship is the toughest it’s been for a long time, so even more credit to Ipswich,” Warnock stated.

With more than 40 years of managerial experience, Warnock is frequently regarded as English football royalty. He expresses admiration for McKenna and the possibility of receiving promotions back-to-back.

“I like his persona and the way he deals with things,” he stated in an interview with Wayne Bavin of BBC Radio Suffolk.

“No one expects you to stay in the Championship if you get promoted from League One. That’s what I did when I was at Notts County. Everyone dismissed us.

“It appears Kieran will receive automatics. A manager won’t grow as gray hairs by winning right away because play-off competition is more competitive.”

Sam Morsy, the captain of the Blues and the most recent Town player of the year, was also under Warnock’s management.

“I had a boy named Sammy at Middlesbrough who is one of my favorite boys. It’s fantastic to see him captaining Ipswich and getting along so well. I enjoy seeing those who deserve it succeed.

“I hope Sammy has a smooth transition. To be honest, I didn’t want him to go. Sam wasn’t sure if he should move to Ipswich, but I assured him that he would love living there and that the club is great.

“It’s worked out really well, he’s a top player and top person.”

“A very nice club”

Warnock stated that this season’s Championship had been of a high caliber and that Ipswich’s matchup with Huddersfield would not be easy.

According to the league standings, Leeds United, the Tractor Boys’ closest opponents, would be unable to catch them with just one point against Huddersfield at Portman Road. Leeds United will host fourth-place Southampton at Elland Road.

“There are no simple games,” he declared. “Things won’t always go as planned in the Championship, but it’s not a formality either.

“Huddersfield could defeat anyone on their day, but Ipswich should prevail.

Nothing is ever easy to understand, so it won’t be. If Town had a bad team in the league, they wouldn’t be in this situation. A sigh of relief will accompany the achievement of an early goal.

“Before the euphoria on Saturday, expect a few hiccups.

“It’s a real good club, and I’m looking forward to seeing them hopefully in the Premier League.”
