With the 29th overall pick in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, Tyler Guyton was selected by the Dallas Cowboys. Guyton, who began his career at TCU and attended OU for two seasons, is the 49th player from Oklahoma to have their name called in the first round of the NFL Draft.

Guyton was the eighth offensive tackle chosen in the first round of this year’s draft and the first player from Oklahoma taken off the board. An offensive tackle from Oklahoma was chosen in the first round for the second year in a row.

Guyton, a lifelong Cowboys supporter, finds it to be a perfect fit. The gifted tackle fills a critical need for Dallas and is expected to start at left tackle in the lineup. Speaking on the next phase of a bright career, Guyton discussed what it would be like to get drafted by his ideal team:

Regarding when he believed Dallas would draft him:

Guyton: “When they began spoke to me, I felt it was feasible. I had the impression that everything would work out eventually and that I couldn’t have asked for a better squad to play for when everything fell into place.”

Regarding the left tackle position:

Guyton: “Yeah, I have. I think I’m good at both, so I’ll dive straight into left tackle and try my hardest.”

Regarding the primary distinction between playing left and right tackle:

Guyton: “For me, there isn’t a greater difference. It seems like it’s just flipping plays and strategies, to me. I don’t anticipate it being a difficult task. I’m very looking forward to that.”

Regarding the extent of his conversations with the Cowboys before to the dra4:

Guyton: “I spoke with the Cowboys quite a bit. Mike Solari, the offensive line coach, and I had a close relationship and would always savage each other. a lot during the Pro Day, and I kind of sensed that he would turn me into their guy.”

Guyton: “I think that stems from my lifelong devotion to the Dallas Cowboys.” Entering the meeting and noticing the star on these guys’ baseball caps. For me, it was a complete circle as I grew up watching every Thanksgiving game featuring the Cowboys. And while I didn’t imagine that would be me as a young guy, it is today. I am ecstatic beyond measure.”

If he went on a 30-day trip with the Cowboys:

Guyton stated, “I didn’t make a 30-visit with the Cowboys.”

Regarding his growth as a tackle:

Guyton: “I’ve played four years at tackle. I didn’t play tight end in college; instead, I played defensive line in high school. I did jump in a few heavy sets and special packages, and they passed to me a few times, but my entire career has been as a tackle. Once I was in college, it was always tackle.”

How many tackle starts did you have in college?

Guyton was “At left tackle, started three games.”

Guyton: “The state of Nebraska…Alternatively, no I am unable to even consider it at this time. We’ll take one.”

About the athletes he admired as a child:

Guyton: “Tyron Smith plays for my team, so I’ve always been a huge fan of his.” It was kind of incredible for me to realize that he’s one of the best offensive linemen ever, especially since he plays for my favorite team.”

Regarding whether he paid a pre-draft visit to Dallas:

Guyton: “I didn’t.”

Regarding Dak Prescott’s blocking:

Guyton: “A few weeks back, I was with him; I told him what was wrong, and we briefly broke it up. I’m eager to get started, join this team, and provide a block for Dak. We have great things ahead of us, and I think Dak is an outstanding quarterback.”

Guyton: “To be honest, I found that to be the most thrilling thing. I get a dog as a guard. I adore his style of play. I think we’re going to be great together because we’re in a similar circumstance to him from last year. Hopefully I can capitalize on his fierce mentality and vicious edge, as I adore them both.”
