ESPN news: Favorite WNBA Player Sends shocking message to Caitlin Clarks about fever rookie
There is one player outside of Indianapolis who is rooting for Caitlin Clark as her WNBA career gets underway with the Indiana Fever.
When Sabrina Ionescu of the New York Liberty was selected first overall by the Fever on April 15, Clark talked about how much she looked forward to her in high school. The two have already met, and as Clark’s first WNBA game approaches on May 14, Ionescu gave her some advise.
“How she’s been able to advance the game is amazing, considering that she’s just starting her career,” Ionescu remarked to WNBA reporter Khristina Williams on Monday. “And knowing that she’s only beginning to scratch the surface of what she’s going to accomplish in the league, while doing that in college and breaking so many records.”
Ionescu went on, “And you know, she knows I always root for her.” “I’ve made contact. Since we’re really close, I just want to be the one she can always rely on.
Ionescu went on, “And obviously there’s competition, but she, I think, knows that I’m always in her corner.” The league is difficult. The league is challenging.
In two Final Four trips, Clark—the all-time top scorer in the NCAA—performed brilliantly at Iowa. In the last two years, Clark, a basketball prodigy from her early years before attending college, has become an even more famous person.
Ionescu stated, “She has a target on her back, but you know, she’s going to be able to take care of her business.” “There will undoubtedly be challenges ahead, and she will need to discover what it takes to become an expert, but she is the most qualified person to accomplish that.”
Ionescu, an Oregon guard selected first overall by the Liberty in 2020, has long been regarded as one of the best in the league. She has been selected to two All-Star teams and two All-WNBA second teams.

When Clark spoke her mind at the post-training camp press conference on Monday, she was fully aware of the target on her back. This is true even though the Fever haven’t had a winning record above.500 since 2015 and had the No. 1 pick in back-to-back seasons during a seven-year postseason drought.
Not every WNBA player believes Clark will become an instant star, unlike Ionescu. Diana Taurasi, a longtime member of the Phoenix Mercury, thinks it will take time for Clark to get used to it.
On April 6, Taurasi told ESPN’s Scott Van Pelt, “Not saying [Clark’s skills] are not gonna translate, because when you’re great at what you do, you’re just gonna get better.” “However, there will be a transitional phase where you must extend yourself some leeway as a novice.”

Amidst huge expectations, Clark admits that the pro game will also require time to adjust. Having stated that, she accepts it.
During Sunday’s news conference, Clark told reporters, “No matter what happens, there’s going to be expectations and pressure on my shoulders and this team to be really good.” “It’s the way you want it.”
