CBS sports news: Sean McVay breaks silence on rumored contracts concerns with Matthew Stafford

Will Matthew Stafford play football for the Rams long after he retires?

Stafford is seeking longer-term security after the 2024 season, when he will receive $31 million in guaranteed money, according to Matt Gordon of NFL.com. A month after the Rams won the Super Bowl in 2022, he signed a four-year, $160 million contract extension with Los Angeles. The 36-year-old’s money isn’t guaranteed in 2025 or 2026, but the pact does carry him through the 2026 season.

According to John Breech of CBS Sports, head coach Sean McVay addressed the gathered reporters during a recent news conference about his top signal caller’s apparent dissatisfaction.

“My conversations with Matthew have gone well,” McVay said. “We’ll keep those things in house, but he’s been working with our guys and we’ll keep those things in house.”

“We’re going to approach things day by day. McVay continued, “We’ll see about the contract situation. “We will therefore attempt to solve it. Nothing is more crucial than ensuring he understands how much we love him and want him to take the lead and feels valued. We want to work toward determining whether or not he can reciprocate my belief that he wants to be committed.”

Over the years, Stafford has experienced some health problems in Los Angeles. He missed eight games in 2022, and the Rams did not make the playoffs at all as a result. With Stafford healthy, Los Angeles made a successful comeback to the postseason last year, winning a wild card game with a 10-7 record.

Rams News: New Attacking Tool Describes Winning Mentality

His approach to the game. in other words.

With the 83rd overall choice on Friday, the Los Angeles Rams selected Michigan running back Blake Corum. Corum’s response to being drafted and joining the Rams was brief. Without delay, he expressed his eagerness to not only see the Rams but also contribute to their victory.

“I’m simply fortunate. Through the Rams’ X account, Corum stated, “I’m eager to start work, get to know my teammates, and do everything I can to help the organization continue to win.”

Corum has undoubtedly lived up to his winning reputation, and he has no intention of changing that as he joins the NFL. He served as the offense’s main motivator in 2023 as Michigan went on to win a National Championship. Corum ran for 1,245 yards and an FBS-high 27 touchdowns in the 2023 campaign. His ability to get into the end zone was crucial to the Wolverines’ victories, and maybe he can continue this success against the Rams. This featured a performance in the National Championship game where he ran for 21 carries for 134 yards and two scores.

Corum now becomes a member of the Rams, who just returned from a trip to the NFC Wild Card round and a loss to the Detroit Lions. The Rams’ most recent Super Bowl victory occurred just over two years ago. The squad has gotten significantly younger overall, with crucial players like Puka Nacua, Kobie Turner, and fellow running back Kyren Williams emerging as vital contributors. Veteran players Matthew Stafford and Cooper Kupp are still on the roster from the previous Super Bowl run.

The Rams’ attack should be more evenly balanced thanks to the powerful backfield combo of Williams and Corum. Williams just had a breakthrough campaign in which he gained 1,144 yards and 12 touchdowns through rushes. It wouldn’t be unexpected to see this Rams squad continuing to compete with him and Corum as a lethal one-two punch.
